Job Description

Adventure4Change is looking for a Community Child Engagement Coordinator to join our exceptional team and establish a specific focus on the Better Beginnings Waterloo programs. This person will work in close partnership with school teachers, administrators, and parents to help identify and design programming suited for the unique needs and opportunities of the students, in keeping with Better Beginnings Waterloo’s approach to promoting the overall welfare and growth of each participant.This is a position that takes place both in school and in the community to:

1.Participate in the design and implementation of BBW programs and activities ensuring that all aspects of child welfare are considered.

2.Help recruit, train, and supervise all volunteers in the implementation of programs.

3.Assist in the review and evaluation of programs.

4.Invest time and energy in being aware of and engaging with the parents of all participants.

5.Grow in understanding of each student to better design meaningful interventions.

6.Develop positive relationships with all school staff and community parents.


·Support and assist children to participate in play and creative activities.

· Provide leadership in the planning and implementation of activities thus ensuring the support of program functions as a cooperative integrated component of the BBW contribution.

·Be a contributing member of the A4C -Better Beginnings Waterloo team.

·Work with the team to help establish the BBW Cedarbrae classroom as a place of welcoming and meaningful programming.

·Engage with parents and the community and work closely with parent engagement to ensure parents are well informed and whenever possible are integrated and have a formative role in all planning.

· Plan, lead, and guide age-appropriate activities/programming, such as reading, physical activity, and creative expression with a focus on child development.

·Monitor children throughout the programs and always ensure their safety.

·Program review, documentation, assessment, etc.

· Ensure the classroom or play environment is kept sanitary and implement a cleaning schedule. Ensure all supplies are on hand for programs.

·Contribute to the building of positive partnerships with all agencies and organizations.

Qualifications & Skills

·Bachelor’s degree in child development or have completed a two- to a four-year college program in Early Childhood Education or commensurate experience and references.

·CPR C and Standard First Aid training or willingness to attend training.

·Positive, caring, and compassionate attitude

·Strong ability to contribute to a team context

·Sincere commitment and ability to work with vulnerable populations.

·Safety conscious with keen observational skills

·Excellent leadership skills and confidence in giving direction.

·Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·Ability to motivate others and be proactive.

·Ability to be organized and plan.

·An appreciation of up-stream thinking
