The Opportunity

The Challenge Unit Charge Nurse is responsible for a wide range of duties including some or all of the following: research project logistics, day-to-day oversight of the Challenge Unit program, recruitment/enrollment, consenting participants, conducting visits, and participant follow-up.

Responsibilities

• Oversee screening process and eligibility of participants
• Maintain a current knowledge of the study status and important milestones
• Act as professional liaison with departments and facilities within the Health Centre
• Handle appointment bookings, enrollments, and follow-up with under the supervision of the Challenge Unit Research Manager.
• Planning/Organizing
• Maintain appropriate study blinding, randomization methods, and drug accountability records
• Complete source documentation
• Act as professional liaison with study participants
• Provide updates to Challenge Unit Research Manager on study progress and participant engagement
• Enroll subjects according to study protocol
• Provide mentoring and precepting support to current and new staff
• Review study protocol and orientation materials and attend study orientation meetings/site initiation visits
• Maintain study documentation in adherence with the CCfV filing system
• Delegate tasks to Clinical team under the oversight of the Challenge Unit Research Manager
• Perform all study procedures in adherence with Good Clinical Practice and the study protocol

Hours of Work

Monday-Friday including weekends, 8 to 12 hours per shift

Your Qualifications

• Strong clinical skills including blood sampling, IM injections and physical assessment
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Able to effectively multitask in a clinical or research setting
• Highly organized and able to multi-task when needed
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
• 1+ years of experience with in-patient clinical research, specifically clinical trials
• 2+ years of relevant experience within a university research setting, hospital, or comparable environment
• An understanding of Research, Ethics, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in concept and practice
• Strong attention to detail
• Experience writing, editing, and reviewing study related documents
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Comfortable dealing with parents, participants, and members of the public
• Bachelor degree in Nursing required
• Excellent communication; able to speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques
