Responsibilities
Reporting to the Primary Health Care Lead, the incumbent will provide expert knowledge and skills on a wide range of issues from advocacy to assessment to case management. As a member of a primary health care (PHC) Diabetic education Centre team, the PHC Dietitian provides a range of PHC services. These services include, but may not be limited to, health promotion, illness prevention, screening, treatment and monitoring of people living with diabetes . Expertise may also be required to support people living with other chronic health problems, community development and advocacy. The incumbent will be required to collaborate with others to increase community capacity as an educator, researcher and clinical practitioner. These services are provided within a holistic, client/family centred care framework.
The incumbent will provide health assessment, interventions and appropriate follow up in accordance with acts, regulations, policies, standards, guidelines, mission and objectives of the Registered Dietitians of Canada, the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association, the Department of Health and Wellness - Province of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition at a recognized university
• Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred
• Two years clinical experience preferred
• Current Membership in Nova Scotia Dietetic Association required
• Designation as a Certified Diabetes Educator preferred
• Familiarity with principles of Motivational Interviewing
• Dietetic internship (a 1 year integrated or post graduate program)
• Ability to work well independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team environment
• Exhibits creative problem-solving ability; Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines and committees to achieve excellence in patient care
• Computer proficiency in MS Office( Word, PowerPoint), email and internet
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
• Annual continuing education to maintain Nova Scotia license
• Membership in Dietitians of Canada preferred
• Experience with group education
• Current CPR/BLS certification is required
• Effective research and analytical thinking skills

Hours of Work

• Permanent part-time position; 52.5 hours bi-weekly.
• Travel between the two sites would be required
• Evening shifts may be required

Salary Information
$32.78 - $43.21 hourly
