A results driven, customer centric leader who has a successful track record of designing and delivering innovative, efficient and effective solutions to his/her business partners and who continually is looking for solutions to enhance the customer experience and support the company strategic direction always from a fiscally responsible lens. This position has three primary areas of focus – a) lead the retail design and project delivery teams working with real estate development, senior business leaders and project stakeholders ensuring that project delivery meets and conforms to business capital investment requirements, b) developing and implementing innovative store design that enhances the customer experience and contributes to sales growth whilst at the same time creating, maintaining and communicating prototype standards that look to minimize construction and operating costs, and c) develop creative, cost effective fixturing solutions and ensure their timely procurement and installation in support of the business unit’s objectives.


What You’ll Do


Accountable for overseeing the creative development and project management of all new construction and / or tenant improvement construction projects for Canadian Tire Retail, Canadian Tire Petroleum, Party City, Pro Hockey Life, Part Source and Third Party CRU’s, making sure they are completed on time and on budget to the required design parameters.


  • Direct oversight and accountability for delivery on each project; maintaining structure; and following a consistent delivery process.
  • Source and manage project delivery resources, both internal and external, to ensure best in class project management.
  • Coaching and mentoring direct reports
  • Actively participate in the roll out of new Project Management software to ensure corporate real estate requirements are considered.
  • Working with the estimating team to produce estimates for projects
  • Facilitate effective communication between all stakeholders including senior leaders, Dealers, project team leads, consultants, vendors, contractors, landlords, security and other stakeholders as required.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders regarding key project objectives and deliverables, to ensure buy-in and to realize benefits.
  • Oversee contract administration role to ensure compliance with audit procedures
  • Oversee the tendering process, to ensure compliance with audit procedures
  • Managing the due diligence phase for potential projects
  • Liaise with prototype and store planning to ensure inclusion in the design and contractors contract.
  • Seek opportunity for value optimization throughout the project life cycle


What You Bring


  • Ability to manage competing priorities effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build teams and to recruit, motivate, develop, and retain staff
  • Ability to plan and manage at a tactical and operational level while still maintaining a hands-on, “get it done” approach
  • Ability to quickly make decisions under circumstances with little information provided
  • Excellent communication, presentation, organization, and execution skills
  • Proven ability to cultivate business relationships
  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience in retail design and construction leadership roles with significant tenure at well-managed companies and evidence of success.
  • Strong governance and risk management skills
  • The ideal candidate will have a significant portion of their experience focused on medium to large format retail, including both “shell” and turnkey project experience.
  • 5 years’ leadership/management experience with a strong propensity for team building, coaching and mentoring
