Manager, Strategic Sourcing



What is the opportunity?


Working with the Director Strategic Sourcing and the Senior Manager Strategic Sourcing, this role will influence sourcing decisions, drive supplier consolidation and cost savings efforts.


This role will partner with Senior Management to proactively develop strategies for low risk/non-complex sourcing initiatives.


This role will gather and analyze data to help create playbooks and strategies to support the different business models for services currently under contract and prepare findings for senior management.


This role will develop and negotiate non-complex contract strategies that will provide cost effective, sustainable solutions to RBC businesses, and optimizing total value generated from RBC’s supplier base.


What you will do?


Decision Evaluation and Contract Execution


  • Working with the Director Strategic Sourcing if needed, lead the negotiation process from preparation through to execution for non-complex contracts.
  • Prepare and draft non-complex contract terms, working with legal department to ensure all terms are compliant and meet business requirements.
  • Effectively prepare, coordinate and conduct all non-complex supplier negotiations.
  • Analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and develop various evaluation models to identify and analyze strategic issues, business unit opportunities, service levels, consolidate non-critical requirements across different suppliers.
  • Evaluate supplier proposals by interpreting and analyzing proposals against business requirements to recommend the best solution supplier recommendation to senior management and/or Senior Manager Strategic Sourcing.
  • Provide support to business groups in managing supplier contracts and relationships and makes necessary amendments to current contracts as necessary.
  • Develops different evaluation models which reflect the organization's principles and are appropriate for the needs of a specific tender for proposal.
  • Ensure negotiations are authorized and planned taking into consideration the requirements of all parties and organization objectives.


Relationship Management


  • Act as a trusted business partner to influence and lead key sponsors and stakeholders through the sourcing process, to gain buy-in, overcome challenges and deliver on high priority, high-risk, complex initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with key suppliers, negotiating pricing/and or quality of service while minimizing risk.
  • Uses networking and market intelligence to forge and maintain key strategic relationships.
  • Secures stakeholder support for non-complex decisions.
  • Build effective and strong relationships with key partners and stakeholders by understanding key needs and dynamics across stakeholder groups, decision makers and influencers.


Sourcing Strategy Development


  • Identify, research and prioritize possible sourcing opportunities through internal spend analysis, knowledge of business unit, potential savings and/or business need.
  • Create plans to identify or recommend alternative suppliers against the sourcing execution plan, to maximize service levels and procurement activities and create alignment to long-term business strategies.
  • Identify and analyze strategic issues, business unit opportunities, service levels, consolidate critical and non-critical requirements across different suppliers.
  • Develop sourcing strategies for business units using industry analysis, business knowledge, competitive analysis and sourcing expertise.
  • Coordinate and manage external research activities to provide assessment of supply market conditions and to help align procurement activity to the organizations procurement and business objectives.


Governance, Risk and Controls


  • Analyzes complex procurement challenges and assist in developing solutions to best meet business needs.
  • Support KPI and metric reporting to key partners and decision makers to drive insights into business trends and opportunities and measure results.
  • Manages procurement policies, processes and procedures to ensure the supplies of quality goods are acquired efficiently, on time and at a reasonable cost.
  • Consistently applies an understanding of procurement policies and procedures in carrying out tasks. Demonstrates flexibility to fulfill urgent non- complex requests without unduly interrupting normal processes.
  • Support development and adherence to financial, fraud-prevention and risk management controls through the Procurement process.


What do you need to succeed?


Must-have


  • Strong organizational, analytical and presentation skills, delivering to Senior and Executive level leaders
  • Experience in supporting stakeholder interactions/relationships and influencing business decisions
  • Post-secondary education, related purchasing field or Procurement designation
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Global Procurement, sourcing and relationship management
  • Strong contract acumen


Nice-to-have


  • Familiarity of Procurement law and/or regulations
  • Financial Institution experience
