2023 T&O Fall Developer Rotational Program (12 Months)



What will you do?


  • Translate requirements into functional specifications, and coordinate design phases, while identifying, tracking, and resolving technical issues
  • Present technical topics at regular stakeholder meetings and manage low-level planning of work packages
  • Participate in walkthrough reviews of technical specifications, programs, code, and unit test plans
  • Conduct thorough unit testing, often developing and leveraging automated unit testing frameworks, and improve performance of single functions through performance tuning
  • Collaborate with peers to develop code in line with strategic initiatives, as well as develop, troubleshoot, enhance, and document components, as per the requirements and detailed design
  • Plan design/implementation activities, ensure technical solution quality, provide third-level support for various technologies, and drive technical platform evolution and improvements
  • Create and review technical design documents, understand how the design will be used in the code development process, and facilitate meetings to design, troubleshoot, and execute projects
  • Estimate activities/tasks required to perform design, coding, and unit testing


What do you need to succeed?


Must-have


  • Ability to challenge the status quo, and think outside the box to develop solutions.
  • Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of programming languages, databases, platforms, frameworks, design techniques and tools, code management tooling, and/or web technologies.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution and eligible to complete a consecutive 12 month co-op term as part of a formal Co-op Program
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written).


AND one or more of the following:


  • Experience with mobile application development.
  • Experience with full-stack technologies such as Spring Frameworks, Angular, NodeJS, Flask, etc.
  • Experience with service-based architectures and API development (Rest, GraphQL, etc.)
  • Experience with cloud platforms and related technology.
  • Experience with devops tools and processes.


Nice to have


  • Experience in agile or design thinking methodologies or frameworks.
  • Expressed interest or previous experience in the financial industry or FinTech.
  • Practical experience in web or mobile development.
  • Experience with hackathons.

Job Summary


The T&O Developer Rotational Program is a 12 month internship program that allows you to complete your first two terms within the Innovation & Technology team at RBC, followed by your final term within the RBC Amplify program. During your first two rotations in Innovation & Technology you will work as a Developer on the Open Source Program Office & Developer Advocacy team, you will collaborate with a cross-functional team to deliver on software products related to Open Source, InnerSource, and Developer pain points. You will develop, test, and maintain code, as well as create technical documentation for the RBC developer community. During your last rotation in RBC Amplify, you’ll work in a cross-functional team of four and get assigned a bold business challenge, developing a solution, and pitching it continuously throughout the summer.
