Writer In Residence, Department Of English

The Langara College writer in residence position lasts for three months, from January 15 until April 12, 2024. Applicants for the program should have a substantial publishing record with recognized publishers. The stipend is $15,000 and does not include a housing allowance.

While one of the primary functions of this writing residency is to provide the writer with an extended period of time to concentrate on their own writing, our program also provides opportunities for the writer to interact extensively with the Langara College community, enabling this audience's appreciation and understanding of both the writer's work and contemporary Canadian writing.

Duties And Responsibilities

Independent Activities

The candidate is encouraged to use their free time to develop a writing project, with Langara providing office space and other support.

Community Engagement

The writer in residence is a member of the college community and therefore involved in a number of College-related events:

• Participation in the Strangers on a Train reading series
• Social engagement(s) with College faculty/administration
• College-wide talk/reading(s)

Student Mentorship

• Office hours two days a week for manuscript consultations with students
• Classroom visits for creative writing and literature
