Position Title: Writer and Content Creator – Special Projects
Status: Temporary Full-time (Appendix D, 1-Year Contract)
Hours per week: 40

What You Will Do
The Writer and Content Creator, Special Projects (WCCSP) is a member of the GRMC - Creative Services team and is responsible for journalistic-quality writing and content creation for integrated communications that positively enhance the image and reputation of Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. Reporting to the Manager, Special Projects, the WCCSP is responsible for the development, flow and completion of web, digital/video and social editorial for external and internal audiences. The incumbent is responsible for content development including effective interviewing, journalism subject research and video script writing for multiple communication platforms at Humber. The Special Projects team focuses on institutional-wide areas such as the Centres of Innovation Network, Work-Integrated Learning (WIL), Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and other strategic initiatives. The role also writes or contributes to research & grant proposals, award submissions and other Humber or project-based publications. The WCCSP creates content to support the Communications team for strategic, executive, departmental and faculty initiatives. The incumbent provides day-to-day leadership and expertise to the Manager, Special Projects and the overall Government Relations, Marketing & Communications department.
The WCCSP Has Demonstrated Experience And Strong Knowledge Of
  • Canadian journalism standards, research and journalistic quality writing; CP Style
  • For web, multimedia, and social media
  • Planning and executing interviews for profiles or quotes with industry executives, students, alumni, etc.
  • Office administration (e.g. scheduling meetings, purchasing and planning of resources for events/initiatives)
  • Grant/award submissions
  • Photography/Videography to add to/enhance content creation, with smartphone/tablet (DSLR experience is an asset
  • Video scriptwriting
  • Editing for online, and digital channels
  • Managing project timelines and milestones
  • Developing and curating content, leveraging existing brand style and tone
  • Writing for post-secondary education:
  • Event planning and support experience
  • Research proposals
  • Multiplatform storytelling and integrating various types of content into one format (article, video)

What You Bring To The Role
  • Ability to plan, organize, and support large-scale events with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience writing speeches, project briefs/memos and award/grant applications.
  • A self-starting storyteller with journalistic interviewing and writing skills and the ability to work independently.
  • A minimum of two years working as a writer, journalist, content creator and/or public relations/communications specialist.
  • Key skills include writing, managing, planning, interviewing and producing postsecondary/corporate publications and web content; writing news/ feature stories for print, web and social; supervising editorial flow, logistics, timelines and requirements for all projects; editing print and web-based content, superior oral, written, social media communication and interview skills.
  • Ability to create and integrate different types of content into published stories and articles.
  • Three-year diploma/degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or other relevant discipline.
