The Pioneer Community Living Association,a non-profit organization providing innovative housing and support to individuals with mild to complex mental illness, sometimes combined with substance use challenges, is hiring for aPart-TimeCrisisProgram Worker, Community Residential Short Stay and Treatment (CREEST) Program.
The Program:
Located in New Westminster,the CRESST program is a 24-hour community-based mental health service available to individuals who need short-term treatment and support for a mental health concern that makes coping at home difficult but does not require a stay in the hospital. This is a voluntary program for individuals who are able and willing to accept mental health treatment and support in an open setting.
The CRESST team works with the individual on symptom management and stabilization, building on coping skills, fine-tuning medications, and increasing knowledge about mental illness.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision and general direction of the CRESST nursing staff, the Crisis Program Worker supports clients to plan their daily routine and to participate in life skills groups and activities. The Crisis Program Worker position reports to the Manager of Care, CREEST program.
This is a permanent 15-hour-per-week part-time weekend (Saturday and Sunday) opportunity.The is within the Hospital Employees Union (HEU) bargaining unit, classification grid level 34.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of nursing staff, supports clients through the process of planning their daily activities, including attending appointments, completing chores, and participating in life skill groups and programs.
·Facilitates life skill groups and activity sessions.
·Observes and documents changes in behaviours, cognitive and physical functioning and reports same to nursing staff.
·As a member of a multidisciplinary team, provides input into the evaluation of care and makes recommendations for modifications when indicated.
·Assists in the development of care plans for clients in accordance with personal needs, by reporting observations and providing input.
·Demonstrates a high degree of resourcefulness in emergencies by following first responder protocols.
·Assists with light housekeeping duties such as laundry, dishes and meal set-up.
·Attends staff in-service programs and approved work-related conferences and seminars.
·Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Specialized Knowledge:
·Secondary School Graduation
·Current First Aid, AED and CPR certifications.
·Completion of Mental Health Worker program or completion of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Course or equivalent.
·Training in crisis intervention is preferred.
·A combination of education, training and education will be considered.
·Completion of Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.

·Safely and efficiently operate all equipment associated with the position.
·Establish and maintain good interpersonal skills including displaying tact, courtesy, and patience with clients, staff, visitors and volunteers.
·Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
