Discovery Community College Teaching Assistants work to assist the instructors with daily duty including onboarding students, marking exams and offering additional support to students in small groups. Additionally, a Teaching Assistant will help students in need of additional one-on-one time to master the technology required for participation in the programs and other barriers to learning the students may encounter.

We have an opening in our Campbell River campus for the right individual. This will be a 28 to 32 hour a week position (Monday to Friday) – exact schedule to be confirmed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Course Instructor(s) with marking student assignments based on the Course Instructors instructions and the program departments policies and procedures.
• Communicate with the instructors of the course on the content, supplemental materials and homework
• Conduct regular tutorials and handle homework/test questions
• Assist and inform students of the procedures for completing and submitting class work.
• Troubleshoot any technical problems students are encountering and act as a liaison between students and the IT department when required.
• Oversee and document students’ learning progress, homework submission
• Provide support to a program instructor and guidance to students
• Provide tutorial and one to one user support for students using MS Teams and other technology to manage in the classroom and online portions of the programs
• Be approachable, patient with and helpful to students
• Act as the liaison between students and Course Instructor and assist students in the classroom and outside of class time.
• Use relevant technology to enhance instruction and learning

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an attention to detail and accuracy.
• A recognized EA/TA diploma an asset
• Demonstrated good judgment and initiative with the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Patient, compassionate, enthusiastic and have positive attitude about learning
• Ability to present a professional and positive image and maintain discretion and confidentiality.
• Highly organized team player with a flexible approach and works well under pressure.
• Highly proficient in the use of MS Teams specifically and technology in general
• Preference given to Discovery Community College Alumni
