Job Summary

The Mountain Resorts Branch supports the establishment and ongoing operation of all-season resorts and community ski areas in communities across British Columbia. All-seasons resorts and ski areas are a cornerstone of tourism in British Columbia and provide significant economic, social, recreational, community and tourism benefits to British Columbians.


The GIS Analyst conducts advanced spatial analysis in support of decision-making on resource planning, land management or other program issues.


Job Requirements


Education and Experience:


  • Creating a variety of data visualization products including planimetric, topographic and thematic maps, as well as web maps and web applications to meet the client's business needs.
  • Experience with mapping systems and processes such as BCGS, UTM, NTS, BC Albers, scale measurement, map compilation, photo and satellite interpretation.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Manipulating and integrating spatial and statistical data using multiple geographic information systems, applications and relational database management systems (ie. ESRI Products, QGIS, MicroStation, AutoCAD, SDE, Oracle).
  • A Bachelor's degree in a resource management related field, computer science or geography and two years *related experience OR,
  • A Technical Diploma in a resource management related field or computer science or geography and four years *related experience OR,
  • Experience with BC Government data and applications (ie. BC Geographic Warehouse (BCGW), BC Map Hub, Forest Tenures Administration, Land Title and Survey Authority (LTSA), Tantalis/Government Access Tool for Online Retrieval (GATOR), BC Online.
  • Working with general theories, principles and standards of cartography including scale, projection, spatial relationships, generalization, symbolization, and data modeling.
  • Related Experience may include:


Preference May Be Given To Candidates With The Following


  • Recent experience (within the last two years) using BC provincial government datasets.
  • Experience programming in scripting languages (including but not limited to Python, SQL, HTML, and Arcade).
