Job Overview


Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional to join our Advanced Inspection & Maintenance (AIM) team in the role of Sr Engineer/Scientist role – Specialist located in Etobicoke, Ontario.


The Sr Engineer/Scientist provides specialist level support for fired power boilers, pressure vessel, HEP and welding to OPG's Thermal Stations. This including specialist level knowledge in the design, OPEX, life management programs, failure mechanisms, root cause, inspection, and repair of power boilers, headers, pressure vessel and HEP. Represent OPG as an industry expert and EPRI Program Advisor for the life management, inspection and repair of thermal power boilers, HEP, and conventional piping systems.


The role will also support thermal with welding and heat treatment expertise including the development of welding specification and heat treatment specification and heat treatment sketches for complex, non-standard welding repairs.

Key Accountabilities


  • Provide coordination and recommend effective work plans for professional and technical staff. As assigned, act as a Team Leader with responsibility to oversee the conduct of work or study to resolve specific problems or investigations and provide technical recommendations.
  • Develop and provide specialized technical training programs for the development of staff expertise to meet OPG and Business Unit requirements. Evaluate effectiveness of training programs, as required.
  • As a recognized specialist, develop solutions to technically complex problems of OPG power plant operations, maintenance, design, and construction and provide periodic supervision on a project basis.
  • Advise management and technical staff on implications of latest technical developments as they relate to design, engineering and operations.
  • Liaise with internal and external personnel in fields of expertise.
  • Act as Team Leader to oversee the conduct of work or study to resolve specific problems or investigations, and technical and environmental recommendations.
  • Develop and implement internal standards and/or programs to reflect external regulations and technical developments.
  • Produce technical remedial reports to increase operational and maintenance efficiencies or enhance plant's environmental performance, design and construction.


EDUCATION


  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario (P.eng)
  • University bachelor’s degree in engineering or Applied Science


Qualifications


  • Working knowledge, and experience in the application of O.Reg 220, CSA B51, ASME Sec I, II, IV, VIII Div 2, IX, B31.1, B31.3, CSA W47, and CSA W59 are considered an asset.
  • Expert knowledge in conventional and advanced NDE techniques and able to disposition advanced NDE inspection results for power boilers, pressure vessels and HEP systems is considered an asset.
  • Experience in QA and QC program development, audits, and review of ITPs. Also, the support, development, and audit of TSSA Pressure Boundary Owner User, and Repair and Alteration welding programs.
  • Requires experience to understand the development and implementation of standards, methods, procedures, jurisdictional and industrial codes, and the setting of work program objectives.
  • Requires experience to provide advice and direction in designated, specialized technical fields. Requires experience to be familiar with divisional organization, methods and practices.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
  • Must have a minimum of 5-10 years of progressive experience working in Thermal Generation.
  • Requires experience in the inter-relationships with internal stakeholders, manufacturers and suppliers, as well as Government and Regulatory Agencies.
  • Requires in-depth experience in or associated with the development, engineering, design, construction, commissioning and operation of large-scale power plants, industrial production, or chemical process facilities.
  • Knowledge of OPG’s ECC Process (Engineering Change Control) is an asset.
