Job Overview


Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional to join Machine Dynamics & Component Integrity team in Advanced Inspection & Maintenance (AIM) division in the role of Sr. Engineer/ Scientist /Technical Officer located in Etobicoke, Ontario.


The Sr Engineer/Scientist provides specialist level technical services and engineering analyses to to support OPG operations in Nuclear and Hydro and Thermal Generation business units.


This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to Ontario Power Generation’s continued growth and success in generating safe, clean, reliable low-cost power in a sustainable manner. Working in this group brings a variety of career development opportunities and training for Hydro, Thermal and Nuclear Operations, including visiting plants, supporting field tests, interactions with other internal and external groups and stakeholders, as well as attending technical meetings within OPG and in industry.


Key Accountabilities


  • Maintaining written documented processes and procedures to reflect improved operating methods and additions to all supported systems.Collaborate with field teams for planning and execution of testing.
  • Provide assessments for fitness for service, life expectancy and performance of Systems, Structures and Components through implementing applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Perform as a technical expert in a designated segment of the assigned technical discipline(s). Provide technical advice to support OPG operation and contribute as required to committees and task forces to conduct studies and work programs for OPG and/or other utilities or industries.
  • Keep abreast of latest developments in the assigned technical discipline, through reference to relevant technical publications and regular interface with research, industrial, and educational bodies.
  • Provide technical evaluations and advice, solve problems and coordinate work as required, in multi-disciplinary teams of engineering and technical specialists, to support of the operation of the power generation facilities.
  • Perform advanced finite element modelling, vibration analyses and assessments, stress and fatigue analyses, fracture mechanics assessments, structure modifications, machinery vibration and dynamics evaluations and troubleshooting techniques as applied to power equipment.
  • Lead projects, develop work plans, supporting, and tracking the execution of projects in compliance with the industry's demanding set of regulations and standards and satisfaction of the client and supervisor.


EDUCATION


  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario (P.Eng)
  • University bachelor’s degree in engineering or Applied Science (Mechanical / Civil Discipline)


Qualifications


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations.
  • Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups to facilitate objectives and ensure deliverables satisfy stakeholder requirements.
  • Knowledge of OPG’s ECC Process (Engineering Change Control) is an asset.
  • Must have a minimum of 6-8 years of working experience in finite element modelling.
  • Experience of working in the field through planning and execution of testing is an asset.
  • Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision.
  • Working knowledge and experience in application of industry code/standards such as ASME B&PV codes Section Ill, Section VIII, B31.1, B31.3, APl-579, CSA N285 and CSA B51 are considered an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
  • Advanced degree in engineering (master’s and PhD) is an asset.
  • Advanced modeling skills and experience in ANSYS and/or ABAQUS software, and CAD skills in SolidWorks software.
