Job Summary


The Senior Engineer, Fixed Facilities will be responsible for managing the delivery of Stage 2 Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project fixed facilities for either the Confederation Line east and west and/or the Trillium Line south Extensions. This includes the design review, coordination and construction of stations, maintenance and storage facilities (MSF) and other related civil structure construction.


Responsible for undertaking the design and peer review process, ensuring designs are in accordance with applicable Codes, Standards and project agreement requirements. Additionally, they will be responsible for leading the design review process with internal and external subject matter expert stakeholders, vetting comments provided, compiling review reports and providing recommendations to management. Leads public consultations on building designs, locations and other stakeholder concerns.


Additional Responsibilities Include:


  • Leads a cross-functional team to ensure that the business needs and outcomes of the project are satisfied;
  • Day-to-day delivery of the assigned LRT design and construction projects and services in support of the Rail Construction Program;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Administration of highly complex, multi-million-dollar LRT projects that will require accountable decision-making duties that will extend over multiple years;
  • Demonstrates an understanding of P3 projects and the design/construction of large-scale transit sector buildings and facilities; and,
  • Contributing to the review and development of department engineering standards;


Education And Experience


Completion of 4 year degree in Engineering or Applied Science


Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the planning, design and construction of municipal infrastructure, including a minimum of 5 years of project management experience


CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES


Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)


KNOWLEDGE


  • Computer applications in an engineering environment pertaining to municipal design, project management, spreadsheet, word processing, e-mail and use of the Intra-Internets
  • Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and city policies and procedures
  • Protocols for responding to senior management/councillor inquiries, conducting public consultation and preparing reports, briefing notes, other communiqués
  • Related federal, provincial and engineering legislation, regulations, standards, codes and by-laws pertaining to environmental impact assessment, building, fire, health and safety, construction process
  • Engineering planning, design, operations and construction/rehabilitation of municipal structures, infrastructure and utilities
  • Process for developing Request for Qualifications & Requests for Proposals, including acceptance, review and selection of consulting engineers
  • Processes for conducting and analysing environmental impact assessments
  • Principles of project management, including cost containment/control and reporting
  • Processes for tendering and contracting work
  • Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance
