The Opportunity


The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) will work with the Manager, Financial Controllership to support the controllership functions for Open Text’s Canadian Entities. The SFA will be an integral part of the accounting cycle, providing support to the Global Finance team, assisting in accounting and financial reporting activities as well as regional requirements for the particular legal entities in Canada. The SFA will be a key member of the North American finance team, with traditional controllership responsibilities, in addition to being a significant contributor to the consolidated US GAAP close.


You Are Great At
  • Review account reconciliations and promote best practices with Group Shared Services Centre (GSSC) to ensure proper accounting and controls are in place.
  • Responsible for review of regular GST/HST returns, indirect sales tax compliance and assisting with CRA indirect tax audit inquiries.
  • Prepare the annual legal entity memo.
  • Respond to monthly questions from management on the balance sheet and P&L review.
  • Perform analytical review of period end financial results.
  • Responsible for the close for the Canadian entities:
  • Support the tax group in the preparation of the annual accounting-tax information package (TIP)
  • Draft Canadian legal entity financial statements
  • Responsible for the Canadian Controllership requirements:
  • Prepare and file Canadian financial statistical filings
  • Assists the business in addressing finance matters
  • Provides local support to the business for matters pertaining to Canada:
  • Provides general support and information to the business as requested
  • Provides support for new acquisitions and legal entity system migrations
  • Participate in post-acquisition integration activities


What It Takes


  • Knowledge of SAP is an asset but not required
  • This role often requires reviewing PDF documentation support, therefore strong reading, observational, analytical and interpretive skills are a must.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills are a must, with a focus on standard finance terminology and “asking the best questions that are focused and direct and show a clear understanding of the underlying accounting challenge”.
  • 5+ years of finance experience
  • Good knowledge of US GAAP reporting and general knowledge of GST/HST is an asset
  • CPA designation
  • This is a hands-on role therefore, a desire to understand “how it works” and digging into and understanding the details of transactions are a must.
  • Strong collaboration and organizational skills
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Must be meticulous and detail oriented – critical thinking skills are a must
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Experience with general Controllership requirements
  • Capable of working independently, multi-tasking to establish priorities, and completing objectives without supervision in a fast-paced environment.
