Job Description
The Financial Analyst will be responsible for providing accounting support and financial analysis for Solid Waste business units throughout Atlantic Canada. This position will be heavily involved in the month-end close process for the Region, adhering to tight timelines. This will include but is not limited to preparing journal entries and various reconciliations and investigating discrepancies. Attention to detail, analytical skills, and being a team player are keys to success for this role.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Review journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by others, as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.
  • Prepares various journal entries for month-end close.
  • Prepare audit and special request reports as needed.
  • Ensures intercompany transactions are properly accounted for and reconciled
  • On a regular basis, performs tests to ensure expenses are coded correctly by operations in accordance to company standards.
  • Ensures assigned balance sheets are reconciled monthly, and discrepancies are investigated and corrected.
  • Coordinates capital asset requests as required
  • Reviews Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to ensure correctness.
  • Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, and ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives.
  • Contributes to the annual budget planning process
  • Develops strong understanding of the company’s chart of accounts and ensures revenue, expenses and balance sheet items are coded correctly.
  • Coordinates with Operations and Finance to contribute to regular forecasting updates.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:


  • Relevant accounting designation or enrolment in program preferred, but not required.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage both short and long-term accounting projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Prior experience with TRUX, Cognos, Blackline, and Workday systems though not required, would be considered an asset
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • High degree of proficiency and adaptability to learn new systems.
  • Business Degree, with a focus in accounting preferred.
