LSP is teaming up with a top-tier North American investment manager, responsible for $7B in AUM. They are seeking an experienced investor to join their diversified Private Equity team in Toronto. Our client’s mandate is to provide transformative capital to business platforms led by high performing entrepreneurs and management teams in the growth stage of their business. Investing in both a minority and majority capacity, they take pride in their operator-centric partnership approach, driving very high returns by rolling up their sleeves and working like an entrepreneur.
Supporting an MD or Director, you will have a central role in the entire investment process from investment screening to portfolio management. As an experienced private equity investor who has built second-round models to support final bids, you will play a key role in coaching and mentoring Analysts and Associates throughout the investment process.
Responsibilities
- Construct dynamic and sophisticated Excel-based financial models to assess new investments, follow-on financings, and portfolio company performance.
- Develop investment memoranda and presentations that concisely summarize key research findings, financial analysis, and meeting outcomes for both internal and external investment committees.
- Ensure compliance of current and potential investments within the fund's guidelines.
- Take charge of crucial workstreams in the investment due diligence process, involving extensive financial analysis, in-depth market research, and competitive landscape assessments, among others.
- Conduct research on prospective industries and companies to generate compelling investment ideas.
- Critically assess information from vendors, company management, and professional advisors, and incorporate relevant data into investment analysis.
- Actively manage portfolio companies, monitoring their ongoing performance, staying informed about industry developments, and providing support to management.
- Supervise and contribute to periodic asset valuation and investment return calculations to meet internal and external portfolio reporting requirements.
Qualifications
- Self-motivated individual with professional demeanour.
- Exceptional financial modeling skills with strong attention to detail.
- Completion of, or enrollment in, a professional designation (e.g. CFA, CA, CBV) is an asset.
- 5+ years of relevant transaction experience in private equity, investment banking, or a combination thereof.
- Results oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and make sense of incomplete, ambiguous, or conflicting information to develop a cohesive point of view.
