PROJECT ENGINEER/PROJECT MANAGER


LOCATION: Calgary, AB or Vancouver, BC


STATUS: Employee or Contractor

Position Summary


Project Engineers / Project Managers will work on one or multiple assigned projects and client accounts to support the execution of projects, manage the scope, budget, and schedule.


When assigned to a client portfolio, this individual will be a key resource in driving the sector initiative within the Tetra Tech ICE business unit. This requires developing connections across the ICE business unit and understanding what services we can offer and the clients we serve.


Responsibilities


Technical & Project Execution


  • Leading the engineering effort of Tetra Tech ICE and its sub-contractors to meet project objectives, on schedule and on budget
  • Checking of calculation prepared by others
  • Managing change requests from the Client, suppliers, or internals for effect on overall project scope, schedule, and budget. Consulting with the Project Manager (PM) to get approvals prior to implementation
  • Responsible for adhering to all health and safety policies and guidelines
  • PEs will work on assisting the PM with the administration, planning, coordination, and monitoring of the project
  • Coordinating with other disciplines to ensure inter-discipline requirements of design interface and schedule dependencies are met
  • Reviewing engineering designs for compliance with scope, codes, and standards
  • Generating or participating in studies and detail designs
  • Gathering and distributing project information to the project team


Client Account Focus


  • Looking for opportunities to communicate as appropriate outside of project work
  • Understanding client procedures and sharing best practices with the internal team
  • Building on established relationships with key clients, primarily in oil sands, processing/petrochemical and midstream sectors
  • Building client relationships by meeting or exceeding expectations on quality, schedule, budget, and fit-for-purpose solutions
  • Understanding the underlying aims of a client in undertaking a project. Trying to identify next steps or other projects that would help achieve these aims. Communicating this to the Client and Tetra Tech management
  • Coordinating client meetings involving team members as appropriate
  • Managing a Client’s expectations and discussing the technical/financial aspects in a clear manner with a thorough understanding of the Client’s needs


Skills And Knowledge


  • Ability to establish and maintain positive client and project team relationships
  • Experience in material procurement process and subconsultant management is required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a project engineering (4 years for project managers) role
  • Experience preparing engineering hour estimates is required
  • Multi-discipline engineering experience within an industrial consulting engineering environment or at an owner’s facility is required
  • Experience with buried transmission pipelines (gas or oil), pump stations, compressor stations, or terminals is considered an asset
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience creating and maintaining schedules (Projects or Primavera) is an asset
  • Must have a strong technical background in either chemical, mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering. May be asked to complete technical reviews of documents
  • Project Managers: 10+ years of related experience in oil and gas, particularly refinery/processing facility capital/MOC/maintenance projects or pipelines/pipeline facilities
  • Brownfield project experience is required
  • Project Engineers: 6 to 10 years of related experience in oil and gas, particularly refinery/processing facility capital/MOC/maintenance projects or pipelines/pipeline facilities
  • Organizational skills to effectively handle multiple small projects concurrently in a team environment
  • Previous work with Suncor, Syncrude, CNRL, or Parkland processing facilities is an asset
  • Working knowledge of standards that may include API/ASME/CSA


EDUCATION


  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in Alberta and/or BC


Additional Information / Requirements


  • To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions.
  • Current Working Environment: Hybrid Working Arrangement (In office & work from home)
  • If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some Tetra Tech positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
  • Periodic travel within Canada to client sites and regional Tetra Tech offices will be required (1-3 days per visit, up to approximately 10 visits per year)
  • A requirement of working for Tetra Tech is that you are at least 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada. A copy of a valid work permit may be required.
  • Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing and background checks may be required for our client worksites
