Project Assistant: Helping Domestic Violence Shelters Support Older Women

Temporary Full-time

This project will build on work done in 2015 (Promising Practices across Canada for housing women who are older and fleeing abuse. With an aging population and pressures from the pandemic, Domestic Violence (DV) shelters are serving and increasing number of older women. The Promising Practices resource will be used to guide discussions with DV shelters in order to assess barriers and develop tools to increase their capacity to respond to the unique needs of older women seeking shelter from abuse.

The successful candidate will be responsible for gathering information for the project and then collating, and summarizing the information in order to create training materials and/or toolkits to address the capacity of shelters to serve older women.

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

• Superior critical reading and writing skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to collate and summarize information for a variety of audiences
• Experience conducting environmental scans and literature reviews
• Experience with community engagement and consultation
• Ability to work independently and undertake project management
• Understanding of anti-oppressive and trauma-informed research is an asset

HOURS OF WORK

This is a Temporary, full time, non-benefited position to August 31, 2023. The rate of pay for this position is $30/hr. This is a remote position with variable hours but will generally be 35 hours per week.
