About the Role
Environmental Defence Canada (EDC) (www.environmentaldefence.ca) works with governments and individuals to enable lasting environmental change. You will be joining a fast-paced organization with mission-driven and results-oriented team members. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package, 4 weeks of vacation, employee and family assistance plan, half-day Fridays during the summer months, and an RRSP matching program. Salary range is $60 – $75K depending on experience. This role will work closely with the Senior Program Manager, Climate Finance, and report to the Programs Director.
Purpose of the Role
Environmental Defence seeks a highly-committed Program Manager with a passion for climate finance reform to join our team and contribute to efforts to advance climate finance regulation in Canada. The program manager will play a key role in Environmental Defence’s efforts to advocate for policy that ensures Canada’s financial sector aligns with the country’s climate goals and those of the Paris Accord. The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of climate finance and experience with public campaigns centered around climate and environmental goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Working with the climate finance team, develop and implement a public campaign in support of EDC’s goal of advancing climate finance regulations to ensure that federally regulated financial institutions must align their investments with the objectives of the Paris Accord
- Track the activities of and communications from major financial institutions in Canada and analyze their impacts on Canada’s climate mitigation efforts, including comparing institutions actions and their stated aims on climate change
- In collaboration with the team, develop opportunities for Environmental Defence’s supporters to call for climate finance reform over social media and through other means
- Draft press releases, op-eds, and communications materials and act as a spokesperson for Environmental Defence
- Collaborate with allies in Canada on a public facing campaign that builds the case for climate finance regulation
- Conduct research and analysis to identify arguments in support of climate finance regulation, drawing from international efforts and other relevant materials
- Produce relevant communications-ready information that can be used for blogs, video, website text, press releases, op-eds, newsletters, social media content, and reports
Skills and Experience

- Experience building partnerships and working in coalitions
- Strategic thinker, with great attention to detail
- Flexibility and ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
- College or University degree in a relevant field, or equivalent
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Results-driven and self-motivated
- Strong understanding of campaign strategy development and project management
- Demonstrated desire to affect change to enhance environmental protection and the public interest
- Strong understanding of energy and finance or climate issues

Location:
This role will be a hybrid role, part time in the office and part time work from home. Ottawa or Toronto preferred.
