HOURS: 35 hours per week (Monday-Friday with occasional evening and/or weekend hours)

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

With 40 years of operations, Skills for Change is a highly respected non-profit charity with a province wide reputation for pioneering programs that respond to shifting immigration and workplace trends and lead to employment. We offer a range of accelerated programs including mentoring, employment, settlement, language training together with specialized programs for skilled trades, women, and youth. We have 5 locations across the GTA and serve 16,000 clients annually. We believe we are in the best position to provide thought leadership through evidence-based programming, impact stories and proactive policy advocacy using knowledge mobilization products.


Skills for Change is a non-profit organization based in Toronto, Canada, that provides employment and education services to immigrants and refugees. We are seeking a Director of Development Fundraising to lead our fundraising efforts and to help us achieve our mission of promoting inclusion and integration of newcomers into Canadian society.

  • The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator with experience working on community-level projects including climate activation, youth programming and advocacy.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Network with relevant agencies to increase awareness of the project and Skills for Change.
  • Assist with editing and development of program materials; draft communications deliverables to capture youth experiences and actions to share with a wide audience.
  • Develop the climate action programme to include a series of talks, workshops, and events.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Deliver the climate action programme to youth clubs, groups, school, community organizations and young people around Toronto.
  • Organize and track coaching and mentorship engagement of youth volunteers and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and support youth teams in community-level project implementation.
  • Provide coordination support to SfC’s climate mitigation program including the logistics, tracking and administration of project activities with strong attention to detail.
  • Prepare and deliver virtual and in-person training sessions for youth volunteers; including contributing to and developing content, facilitation, and evaluation for continued improvement of programming.
  • Be an ambassador for a climate-friendlyte friendly life and be passionate about passing on this message. Develop newsletters, and social media, and make presentations to local partners, community organizations, schools and students to generate partnerships and participants.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Provide direct mentorship and coaching to youth volunteers.
  • Coordinate and support data collection and report writing for project activities.
  • Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders and the Climate Action partners.
  • Assist with planning and overseeing successful event implementation.
  • Plan and coordinate network-building communication activities, events, tours, gardening and tree planting and other activities to build a supportive community of youth climate action volunteers.
  • Work with young people to develop the program across the City of Toronto.
  • Work with small groups of young people to as they deliver their own plan and deliver on a climate action project/pledge.


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Understanding of the Canadian environmental and youth landscapes,
  • A diploma or an undergraduate degree in environmental planning, biology, environmental sciences, sustainable development, sustainability development practice, or natural resource management or a related degree is mandatory,
  • Can support meetings/events outside of regular working hours on evenings and weekends as needed,
  • Can see the big picture and contribute to SfC’s Climate and Youth strategy while keeping a close eye on detail,
  • An experienced facilitator and a reliable self-starter with a hands-on approach, proactively moving work forward, managing your time effectively, and can be counted on to follow-through,
  • Knowledge and proficiency in administration, planning and organization,
  • A criminal reference check for the vulnerable sector is required,
  • Exceptional spoken and written communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire youth volunteers in both virtual and in-person settings,
  • Experience with outreach activities, presentations and working with community partners,
  • 2-3 years’ experience in youth programming catalyzing local climate action required,
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working with, sensitivity and knowledge in dealing with youth from different cultural and racial backgrounds are required,
