The Community Services Coordinator at TSoM will assist domestic and international students who arrive in Canada with spouses and/or children. TSoM is looking for an experienced and empathetic individual who will create community partnerships that are d edicated to helping students and their families overcome problems that keep students from succeeding in school; coordinate existing family and youth support services, family settlement services, health care providers, daycare, visa, and immigrati on support , as needed and resources permit. The candidate will be assisting students from diverse backgrounds with any inquiries related to but not limited to their educational journey.


Responsibilities


  • Assists students in connect ing with other agencies wh e n student s or families need outside intervention by securing health services, daycare, public schools, family settlement services, or other provisions that may improve student attendance and academic performance.
  • Works with international students and provides academic support to include understanding class registration and educational planning processes; advi s es studen ts with non-immigrant applications to have visas, work permits, reinstatements, and reduced course load authorization.
  • Performs assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and goals of the institution, and community.
  • Participates in community activities and joins committees that directly or indirectly affect the needs of TSoM’s students and families as time per mits .
  • Demonstrates commitment by foster ing a nd suppor ting a teaching, learning, and working environment that honours diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Assists in developing programs to meet i de n tified ne eds of students and families in co llaboration with other community agencies and/or organizations.
  • Maintains student’s documentation, updates records, and completes all other paperwork duties as required while maintaining conf i dentialit y.
  • Accepts the responsibility to always promote the welfare and best interests of students.


Education and Experience:


  • Minimum three (3) years of successful experience providing human and /or edu cational ser v ices.
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Social Work, Psychology, Family Studies, Child Development or Education


Kno wledge and Skills:


  • Knowledge of and respect for the diverse culture, families, and religious practices.
  • Exceptional written and communicati on skills, i nclus ive of mediation skills.
  • Knowledge of communit y services for newcomers to Canada and placement resources in the area.
  • Exc ellent Child/family assessment skills.
  • Proven organizational, time management, case management, and crisis management experience related to managing family files.
  • Maintain and provide a high level of confidentiality with clients.
  • Good computer skills including excel, word, and outlook.
  • E xcellent risk assessment and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Immigration laws and regulations for international stud ents.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills.
