Position Summary:

Alpha-9 is seeking a Program Lead to drive discovery efforts for new targeted radiopharmaceutical products. This person will be responsible for one or more discovery programs, including design and oversight of preclinical experiments leading to viable diagnostic and therapeutic clinical candidates. The ideal candidate will have experience with moving a small molecule, peptide or peptidomimetic through the discovery stages to clinical candidate selection. Radiopharmaceutical experience is a plus, but not required.

Some specific duties and tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Collaborate with CMC and clinical teams for IND filings
• Represent company at scientific conferences including preparation of data for presentation
• Manage external teams (CROs and academic collaborations) to deliver peptides/peptidomimetics or small molecule-based radiopharmaceuticals (RPs) for biological evaluation
• Interpret and analyze data, prepare, and review study reports, communicate project progress to internal stakeholders and external collaborators
• Drive key go/no-go decision making
• Work closely with internal groups to design and oversee preclinical experiments to demonstrate in vitro characteristics and in vivo PK/efficacy as well as to define mechanism of action
• Lead discovery efforts for the development of targeted radiopharmaceuticals
• Matrixed management of scientists and research associates conducting peptide synthesis, biological assays and preclinical studies

Qualifications:

• Experience in leading drug discovery projects to reach key discovery milestones
• Expertise in medicinal chemistry, small molecule and/or peptide synthesis, and structure-based drug design
• 5+ years of experience in drug discovery research in biotech or pharmaceutical industries; alternatively, candidates with significant relevant academic research experience will be considered
• Experience in radiopharmaceutical development preferred, but not required
• A team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a strong passion for the discovery of targeted therapies
• Attention to detail with excellent organizational skills, verbal communication and writing skills
• A PhD in chemistry, medicinal chemistry or radiochemistry, with relevant post-doctoral training and a proven track record of scientific excellence and creativity
