The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a full-time Research Associate for its Drug Discovery Program.


The OICR Drug Discovery Program is one of the largest programs of its kind in Canada. Our mission is to help efficiently translate discoveries made in Ontario’s labs into novel oncology therapies. The team is comprised of more than 30 researchers whose collective expertise spans the entire drug discovery process from target identification and validation to clinical candidate selection. The group has extensive drug discovery experience within pharma and biotech environments and combines the disciplines of biology, ADME/PK, analytical, medicinal, and computational chemistry expertise along with state-of-the-art infrastructure necessary to successfully conduct drug discovery projects.

The Responsibilities Include


  • Assist in day-to-day lab management, such as reagent inventories, reagent ordering, instrument maintenance, and generation/updating of SOPs
  • Optimization of protein expression, protein purification and characterization
  • Participate in team meetings, both internal and external
  • Design of expression constructs, expression of proteins in Sf9, mammalian cells, and E. coli
  • Maintain meticulous records of experimental procedures and data
  • Adhere to all OICR safety guidelines and policies, strongly advocates safety to others
  • Work effectively under pressure and tight timelines
  • Present results to internal and external audiences, and contribute to funding requests, as well as manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals
  • Liaise effectively with multi-disciplinary team members (computational chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and ADME groups) within the Drug Discovery Program, with other OICR Research Programs, and with academic and industry collaborators


Qualifications:
  • Completion of a Master’s degree in protein biochemistry, related field or recognized equivalent
  • Ability to work independently, yet within a teamwork environment
  • Highly experienced in all aspects of protein expression in Sf9 and mammalian cells
  • Very organized, with an excellent time management skills, and ability to easily multitask
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with protein expression in BVS, and mammalian cells, and all aspects of protein production
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Highly experienced in troubleshooting Sf9 and mammalian cell protein expression processes
  • Open to learn new techniques and strive to improve processes to increase productivity
