What Would You Do?


Ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for both Palliser Canadian and US employees. This position will also be responsible for answering queries and supporting the payroll team to ensure the objectives of the payroll department are met.


Additional duties will include:


  • Prepare and provide reporting to various departments including vacation, sick time and after payroll reporting
  • Produce Records of Employment for all terminated employees and those going on leave
  • Work with the benefits team to ensure benefits are correctly entered and proper deductions are taken
  • Assists with year end – T4’s and W2’s
  • Research new payroll regulations and implement changes as necessary to the payroll process
  • Process special payments which include bonuses, pension plan, years of service awards, retirements and any other special payments as required
  • Receive and process change forms including rate increases, tax information, direct deposits and employee deductions
  • Miscellaneous payroll responsibilities as required
  • Enter timesheets and verify hours with management as necessary
  • Generate and reconcile bi-weekly and monthly insurance payments and government remittances
  • Train and provide coverage for other payroll areas
  • Provide agencies with information relating to current and ex-employees when required
  • Ensure the accuracy and run the bi-weekly payroll for assigned divisions
  • Identify and develop efficiencies to processes in payroll
  • Respond to queries from employees, HR, Accounting, Managers and Executive
  • Provide information to the auditors as requested
  • Enter new hires, terminations and Leave of Absences (LOA)
  • Ensure compliance with government payroll legislation


What Do You Bring?


  • Knowledge of US payroll laws, rules & regulations a strong asset
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) Certification or in process of obtaining
  • Ability to prepare, review and maintain all payroll functions
  • Strong personal skills including decision-making, time management, planning, initiative, and delegation
  • Analytical thinker and attention to detail
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Minimum 2-4 years’ payroll experience, processing payroll for a large company (250+ employees) an asset
  • Experience using computerized payroll software, knowledge of Dayforce or Ceridian an asset
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll laws, rules, regulations, audit and internal control guidelines
  • Diploma in Payroll Administration or Accounting or other Accounting/Payroll education
  • Strong communication skills including oral & written
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment a strong asset
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability
  • Proficient with Office 365 including Microsoft Excel and Outlook
