Who you are
- Provide support to the Payroll and Benefits Coordinator as needed (reporting, year-end reconciliation, payroll processing, etc.).
- Assist in the on-going maintenance of the payroll processing manual, including creation of new materials as required.
- Preparation of monthly and quarterly payroll and benefits-related journal entries and monthly account reconciliations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Perform maintenance of the time management system for new hires, departures, and all other changes and be the primary point of contact for employee time and attendance questions.
- Assist with reconciliation of T4s and T4As; prepare submission of all annual returns.
- Maintain a high level of payroll, accounting, and human resources knowledge to provide value added payroll services.
- Work closely with the Human Resources department to ensure effective knowledge transfer of all payroll and benefits-related changes and collaborate on projects as they arise.
- In collaboration with the Payroll and Benefits Coordinator, provide timely response to inquiries from human resources, finance, managers, employees, government, and other third-party agencies utilizing knowledge and interpretation of policies and procedures, and legislation.
- Provide accurate and timely weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payroll and benefits processing for various groups and departments in accordance with CRA and other legislated guidelines, including all required remittances.
- Proficient with MS Office and intermediate Excel skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with utmost discretion.
- Ability to handle high volume and multiple priorities with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of Avanti and Kronos considered an asset.
- Detail oriented with analytical skills and ability to resolve and explain complex payroll issues.
- Three to five years administering payroll in a multi-jurisdictional, fast paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and with a high level of accountability and actively seek assistance when required.
- Certification with the Canadian Payroll Association is strongly desired.
