Supported by a network of independent sales agents across North America, SSM operates two production facilities within the Calgary area. To support its growth and expansion, SSM is looking to add a Payroll & Benefits leader to our Portland Street location.
Responsibilities:
Payroll:
Lead the payroll team and oversee all payroll functions, including:
- Prepare, verify, process, balance, and audit payrolls for both salary and hourly employees in accordance with established legislation and internal policies & procedures.
- Lead, coach and support other payroll team members, identifying skill gaps and development opportunities.
- Prepare and reviews year-end reports and T4s.
- Process payroll adjustments and reconcile earnings and deductions.
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries to ensure timely accounting.
- Reconcile Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Employment Insurance (EI) contributions.
- Research ways to optimize the functionality of the payroll system and recommend updates accordingly.

- Assist in the annual program renewal process.
- Manage the overall benefit program including the oversight of accurate and timely employee changes.
- Manage the monthly benefit reconciliation process.
Qualifications:
- Superior communication skills.
- Strong working knowledge of provincial legislation.
- Experience with Payworks’ software will be considered an asset.
- 6+ years’ payroll/benefit processing experience, 2+ years’ in a payroll/benefit leadership role.
