Who You Are

As an integral member of our team and working in partnership with the Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses, you will support patient care in an environment where the focus is quality and patient/family centred care with a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction. As an effective team member you will utilize your strong communication skills and be actively involved in Quality Management initiatives.
Patient Care Support Responsibilities Will Include
The successful candidate will rotate 12 hour day and night shifts during the week as well as on weekends. Please note that schedules are subject to change based on operational needs.
Compensation
Band CU01a: $22.75 - $25.19 per hour

Patient Care Support Responsibilities Will Include
- Assistance with close observation of patient needs; including monitoring patient comfort level
- Assistance with basic patient care as directed by the Nurse (i.e. bathing, nutrition, positioning and ambulation)
- Assist with patient moves and transfers
- Communication with patients/families to increase customer service
- Assistance with room set up
- Empty and change suction bottles as directed by the Nurse and provide and remove bed pans as delegated
- Assist with post mortem care
- Other duties as assigned
- Maintaining linen supplies and cleanliness of the patient rooms (for admission and discharge), utility rooms, nursing station, tub and shower rooms and patient care equipment
- Stocking treatment areas and carts
- Assistance with responding to call bells
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of an interprofessional team
- Completion of a recognized personal support worker certificate or health care aide program from a community college or equivalent education required
- Knowledge of universal precautions and medical terminology an asset
- Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
- Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
- Proficient computer skills
- Previous experience with responsive behaviours
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload
- Previous related experience, preferably in an acute care facility
- Current BCLS certification
- Strong customer service, interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
