Job Overview

The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for working with the business to develop the specifications for the packaging materials and will work with the Sourcing team to put in place the agreements with preferred vendors. The position will support the business on any supplier packaging performance related issues and work to drive improvement for the business by optimizing the packaging and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for ensuring supplier quality and addressing supplier non-conformance
• Work with Senior Manager Process & Packaging as a support function (SME) for all packaging related technical issues or Marketing new product launches
• Responsible for reducing costs of purchased goods and services without jeopardizing quality or business continuity
• Oversee the packaging sustainability programs
• Schedule testing plans for all packaging trails within the Product Development department
• Oversee packaging development, policies, and processes - including packaging materials and special projects
• Provide input to and contributes to the execution of the company’s long-term plan (LTP) within the Product Development department
• Assist in the development of all packaging specifications
• Develop and optimization list for potential cost savings on product packaging working closely with Sourcing Manager - Packaging

Recipe for Success - Qualifications

• Completion of college diploma or university degree in Packaging Development
• Minimum of 5 years previous experience in a packaging development role, including vendor relations
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written; strong listening skills).
• Comprehensive understanding of bakery packaging, production processes, and equipment capability
• A self-starter with the ability to identify projects, solutions
• Comfortable in reading/reviewing various technical documents and drawings
• Previous experience implementing change management, developing quality practices, and coordinating collaborative initiatives related to packaging, technical applications relating to Packaging Engineering preferably bakery
• Knowledge of manufacturing and equipment for food processing and high-speed packaging, as well as Bakery Manufacturing including ingredients
• Strong computer systems (MS Office, ERP systems)
• Ability to prioritize demands in a fast-paced work environment
• Strong leadership skills including building strong relationships
• Strong judgement, analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make decisions
• Solid understanding of urgency in responding to internal (other departments) and external (suppliers, agencies, customers) partners
