Duties And Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director, Athletics and Recreation, the Manager, Esports will create a high-performance competition schedule each year and strategize on game selections as well as operational topics related to the facility.
This position will be responsible for developing, organizing and delivering a leading-edge varsity eSports program and is in charge of recruiting student-players, managing the budget, overseeing the general operations, coaching recruitment, and building the program identity and reputation.
In addition, this position requires the daily management, organization, and co-ordination of programming in the Gaming Arena, located at the Oshawa campus in the Student Centre.
The preferred candidate will have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Travel for team tournaments and recruiting will be required.
Salary: $62,160 to $77,699

- Fiscal
- Develop a supportive Athletic Scholarship program for players.
- Recruit and ensure quality coaching of each team is secured on an annual basis.
- Organize team travel required for competitions.
- Design and purchase team uniforms, gear, and equipment required for each student-athlete.
- Regularly interface with a number of internal clients/partners (either current or potential) including departments like Athletics/Varsity, Faculty, Summer Camps, staff and students, and associations, in order to drive or continue business, seeks requirements, and development Gaming Centre directions.
- If needed, IT Services support, and resolution of Gaming station issues. May need to work directly on PCs, and swap out whole or partial parts.
- Manage team commitments to respective eSports conferences and leagues.
- Review agreements, contract deadlines, rules, and compliance within any associated league, conference, and affiliates.
- Offer regular feedback on equipment upgrades, updates, and maintenance
- Monitor and mentor the academic and mental well-being of players
- Develop, plan and oversee practice, competition, and team building activities
- Coordinate off-season activity, practice schedules, and competition schedules
- Ensure all financial requirements, deadlines and processes are completed as per College policy.
- Provide guidance and input on games selected for varsity and non-varsity competition
- Budget development, monitoring and forecasting
- Conduct camps, clinics, and promotional events to help market the program to potential students and donors
- Regularly interface with a number of external clients/partners (either current or potential) including vendors, suppliers, other campuses, other gamers, other varsity teams and gaming centres in order to drive or continue business, seek requirement, and develop Gaming Centre directions.
- Pursue sponsorship opportunities in coordination with the Office of Development
- Manage Social media and Broadcast delivery and content. Including technical aspects.
- Ensure all persons and functions of the program exemplify the character and mission of the college
- ESports Program Management
- Maintain current working and strategic level knowledge of the Gaming Industry, through live conversations, customer feedback, networking and on-line experiences (ie social media)
- Liaise with eSports Gaming Arena Manager to support program scheduling, competitions, and overall goals of the program.
- Recruit and retain students-players for the eSports varsity program
- Collaborate with other on-campus departments including, but not limited to, the Admissions & Recruitment office, Development & Alumni Engagement, Marketing, and Communications, and eSports Academic program areas.
- Oversee and manage program budget
- Prepare monthly operational and forecast reports for management, as required
- Ability to work with a diverse community of students, faculty, administrators and professional colleagues
- Working in the eSports gaming field. Experience in post-secondary varsity eSports programs is an asset.
- A minimum of a 1-year college certificate in a related field such a business, marketing, computer programming, computer technology, gaming, or software
- Experience recruiting high school or college students preferred
- Strong relationship-building skills
- Proficient written and oral communication skills
- This position requires an extensive background in the eSports gaming world on the game competition front, high performance side and behind the scenes. Significant knowledge of the eSports industry in North America as well as internationally is also required.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all matters related to students, staffing and programming.
- Expert knowledge of multiple games including some combination of League of Legends, Overwatch, Fortnite, Rocket League, Call of Duty, and/or CS: GO
- A valid driver's license and ability to travel
- Demonstrated initiative and creativity
- At least one year of competitive eSports experience involving team-based multiplayer online video games
