The Kamloops Food Policy Council is on the traditional, unceded territory of the Secwepemc people. It is the longest-standing independent food policy council in Canada and strives toward achieving a local food system which is regenerative, sovereign, and just. The Kamloops Food Policy Council is looking for an individual to support our organization’s marketing and communications team. We’re looking for someone who is experienced in social media marketing, event planning, and is passionate about creating a just local food system. This is a full-time, temporary position funded through Canada Summer Jobs that will require 30 hours of work per week over a nine week period. Work hours are flexible; some evenings and weekends required.

Job Summary:
The Marketing and Events Assistant will work closely with our Stirfront Coordinator and Organizational Leadership Coordinator to orchestrate promotional and planning activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Participating in online engagement and content creation for our social media channels (including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms);
Assisting in creating dynamic written, graphic, and video content for our programs; analyzing and reporting audience demographics, and the success of existing social media projects;
Working with the communications team to coordinate fundraising campaigns with a social media strategy;
Assisting with community events hosted or thrown by The Stir/KFPC; helping plan and facilitate monthly network meetings.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Additional tasks may be required as needed. This is including but not limited to: cleaning duties at the Stirfront and its outdoor spaces, liaising with community members, and attending events hosted by other organizations.
Work Environment:
KFPC office space will be provided at the The Stir building; however, the coordinator may be required to work from a home office location dependent on Covid-19 restrictions;
The work will take place within a highly collaborative team environment with a distributed leadership model.
Skills and Qualifications:
High school diploma
Experience working in social media, advertising, and event management is an asset
Ability to work and create independently and collaboratively
Passionate about building a food system that is regenerative, sovereign, and just
