Job Description

Reporting to the Global Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Managing Director oversees and leads all operations of the North American organization/operation by fostering the alignment of people and resources and championing operational excellence and sustainability by driving efficiency, financial performance and profitability, employee engagement and stakeholder relations.


The Managing Director is a dynamic leader, providing guidance and support to their talented leadership team, with overall responsibility for product development and quality, cost management, North American P&L, human resources, and partnerships functions within the organization (i.e. sales and marketing). An inclusive leader, the Managing Director promotes a culture of empowerment, accountability, and results.


Responsibilities


  • Responsible for the vertically integrated farming operations supporting over 50,000 MT of Salmon and trout production.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex fish farming business dynamics including government regulations, environmental monitoring, site infrastructure, development processes, etc.
  • Commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Provide high-level industry leadership.
  • Develop and maintain an ongoing operational plan.
  • Build networks inside and outside of the organization.
  • Participate in strategic planning with the executive team.
  • In charge of the North American fish health department and program including vaccines, treatments, sea lice treatment strategy, and execution of the sea lice treatment plan.
  • Development and execution of the annual stocking plans.
  • Maintain a long-term vision for the operations and a 5 year CAPEX plan.
  • Provides overall direction to the Harvest plan.
  • Responsible for key biological performance indicators.
  • Fiscal responsibility in all aspects of operational cost management.
  • Leadership and support to the various certification schemes, environmental and regulatory compliance, and Occupational Health and Safety
  • Oversight of significant CAPEX growth projects.
  • Overall leadership and direction of seawater and freshwater operations for North America.
  • Responsible for managing the annual operating budget, including an annual capital expenditure budget of $35M, forecast, and communication of various business needs.
  • Responsible for the North American Salmon broodstock program; and the North American Lumpfish program.
  • Operations oversight spanning the Atlantic provinces in Canada USA states of Maine and Washington.


Experience Needed And Skills


  • A deep understanding of the complexity of the fish farming business dynamics
  • Expert knowledge of Aquaculture farming from egg to harvest a requirement
  • Solid business planning with experience in finance and budgeting, cost planning, and management
  • Operational plan development and execution
  • Possesses the highest sense of urgency in managing and navigating complex farming and regulatory environments
  • Extensive senior management expertise in salmon and trout farming and experience in hatcheries, freshwater, and saltwater marine sites
  • Interacting with government regulators, environmental monitoring, site infrastructure, and development processes
  • An understanding of process improvement initiatives and concepts.


Must have a College or University degree in Aquaculture, Biology, Veterinarian Studies, or another related discipline.


Having very strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
