Job Overview


Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a professional to join our Nuclear Decommisioning team in the role of Manager Projects based out of our Pickering Nuclear Generating Station in Pickering, ON.


Reporting to the Senior Manager – Pickering Projects, the Manager Projects will be responsible for leading a portfolio of multidisciplinary projects in support of OPG’s long-term, highly complex, multi-stakeholder Pickering Decomissioning project.


This role is accountable for leading matrix project execution teams and coordinating project planning and execution. This role also provides oversight and field support to contractors in a manner consistent with project expectations and OPG’s policies, procedures, safety values and objectives.

Key Accountabilities


  • Ensure work is executed safely, on time and on budget; promote safety as an overriding priority in all activities performed.
  • Promote a team environment whereby Oversight staff and Contractor staff strive to build a trusting relationship and work together as a team.
  • Lead matrix project execution teams.
  • Co-ordinate and participate in the preparation of specifications, bid packages, evaluation of tenders, and purchasing recommendations.
  • Lead and administer the organization, coordination, and execution of industrial multidiscipline project portfolios, comprising such projects as generation and associated with the generation portion of the Bulk Electricity System.
  • Ensure appropriate Project Management and Contract Management governance is followed.
  • Coordinate and be responsible for project documentation.
  • Drive performance to meet project quality, schedule and cost targets.
  • Collaborate with key project stakeholders and drive accountability.
  • Maintain close liaison with field construction forces and operations on matters involving design, schedules, costing, and other related issues.
  • Set clear expectations for staff and contractors.
  • Arrange and lead meetings to coordinate the requirements of, and progress by designers, suppliers, construction and operations before and after contract award.


EDUCATION


  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation is considered an asset.
  • 4-year University Degree, Engineering, Science or Business
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) certification is considered an asset and


Qualifications


  • Sound knowledge and familiarity with equipment and processes in electrical generating stations or similar heavy industries.
  • Multiple years experience managing multidiscipline projects in a heavy industrial / mega project environment. Preference will be given to applicants with heavy industrial electrical or mechanical background.
  • Experience in managing projects of increasing complexity is considered a necessary requirement; project complexity would normally be defined by multiple-contract, multiple stakeholder projects with schedule constraints.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, organizational and planning skills and
  • Proven ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment (when not in execution).
  • Must processe a valid G driver’s license in good standing.
  • Experience and knowledge of cost accounting and forecasting as it relates to project management.
  • Demonstrated experience addressing environmental protection and associated concerns.
  • Excellent problem solving abilities and the ability to provide guidance.
  • Minimum of 3 years of people management experience with facilitative leadership skills.
  • Prior experience applying commercial contracting methods, contract management, construction methods, codes and standards, quality assurance and health and safety.
  • Prior experience in managing conflicting priorities of scope, schedule, cost and quality.
  • Experienced in industrial project management, specifically, in developing project requirements and plans; preparing cost estimates; participating in contract bidding and award processes, managing projects in execution phase, and managing project closeout.
