In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement , this full-time continuing position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and annual salary range of $82,324-$137,204


Location


Work primarily takes place at North Campus Edmonton.


This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person.

Working for the Department/Faculty


The Project Management Office (PMO) within Information Services and Technology (IST) leads the delivery of University-wide technology projects and programs. We work in partnership with our clients to improve services, facilitate change and ensure projects deliver their intended business outcomes. The team is also accountable for developing, implementing and improving practices, tools and other supports to help ensure successful project delivery.


Position


Reporting to the Director, IT Service Excellence, the Manager, Project Management Office is accountable for the strategic management of all related portfolios, programs, projects and initiatives within Information Services and Technology. They will be responsible for ensuring that the methodology used to execute projects and programs in IST is fit for purpose and delivers the required outcomes for the University.


The Manager, Project Management Office will ensure appropriate resource capacity, availability, and effectiveness for project delivery. It will be important to anticipate the resourcing needs of programs and projects while ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, of quality and within scope.


The Manager, Project Management Office will work closely with IT Service Partners to manage the pipeline of service improvements and enhancements between the University and IST. The Manager, Project Management Office provides oversight and manages overall project reporting and communication plans for project stakeholders and IST Executive.


The Manager, Project Management Office is accountable for the implementation and ongoing improvement of all required project and portfolio management frameworks, tools, and other supports needed by project teams for successful project delivery


Duties


The successful candidate will lead a team responsible for project delivery including project managers, business analysts, change management analysts, etc. As the successful candidate, you will provide direction, leadership, support, coaching and mentoring to your team. You will ensure your team is well prepared to deliver high quality products and that everyone works with a service focused mindset.


Leadership and Team Management


  • Completes annual performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Develops dashboards and reports to understand team performance.
  • Provide regular mentoring, coaching and feedback to team members.
  • Lead, motivate, supervise and develop team members responsible for project delivery including project managers, business analysts, change management analysts, and others.
  • Set and manage annual objectives for team members that align to the IT Service Excellence strategy.
  • Manage team training and development plans to ensure continual improvement of team member capabilities.
  • Sets and communicates clear performance expectations for staff and removes barriers to achieving goals.


Project Management


  • Manage project portfolios in accordance with priorities set by governance bodies and IT Executive using defined selection and prioritization criteria.
  • Accountable for the planning , development, and implementation of IT related programs and projects.
  • Assist where required in the development of an efficient and streamlined University wide IT project governance framework.
  • Implement, maintain, and continually improve models, methods, frameworks, standards and practices for project and portfolio management.
  • Act as a project management subject matter expert where required.


Communication And Relationship Management


  • Ensures stakeholders are informed in a timely, consistent and accurate manner.
  • Communicates effectively and regularly with stakeholders, including IST management and IT partners to ensure IT programs and projects are prioritized and executed in alignment with University needs and objectives.
  • Reinforces a positive work environment through promoting transparency and open dialogue.
  • Maintains an intimate understanding of the University in the interest of building productive and effective ongoing relationships and developing a network at all levels of the organization.
  • Actively listens to understand others’ issues and perspectives and provides an opportunity to respond.
  • Supports IST Executive in strategic planning exercises and aligns subsequent plans with strategic goals.
  • Helps to create an environment where ideas and achievements are recognized, rewarded and celebrated.


Education


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree with demonstrated experience in implementing, managing, administering and improving the project management discipline in an enterprise setting (or related diploma / professional designation with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
  • Project Management Designation (e.g. PMP, CAPM, PPM)


Skills & Abilities


  • Detail oriented, very organized, with good time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with other teams across the organization.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing large, high-performing teams, direction setting, and making budget decisions.
  • Exceptional ability in analyzing and solving complex problems as well as in providing documentation, guidance, and instruction to all levels.
  • Excellent communication / presentation, interpersonal, and written skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing projects and priorities, including strategic planning, coordination of resources, risk management, change management, negotiation, and reporting.
  • Ability to work effectively and achieve results across functional areas in a work environment with a high rate of change.
  • Self-starter with initiative to proactively identify and act upon opportunities without direction.
