12 months contract opportunity
Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Metrolinx's Innovation and Information Technology group supports female team members via "Go Tech Women" an affinity group for women in Information Technology, led by our Chief Information Officer.
Reporting to the Senior Manager (Innovation & Automation, I&IT), the Manager Innovation & Automation will be part of a team to deliver a set of initiatives that will drive productivity and performance, directly leading to the accomplishment of Metrolinx’s strategic goals.
This role allows you to shape solutions from conception to launch while collaborating with process owners, business users and technology teams to build scalable products that deliver growth and improve customer experiences. The Manager, Innovation and Automation will create and execute with their team the program of high gain high impact initiatives.
What will I be doing?
  • Act as the subject matter expert on our automation solutions
  • Define and Deliver end-to-end technical solutions (solution blueprint) that take into account the architecture and technology strategies, current state environment and constraints; analyze the viability of the solutions to meet program timeline, budget and quality
  • Prepared to work on projects and teams that are comprised of resources
  • Guide team to work with key stakeholders to assess technical requirements (functional and non‑functional), current state environment and technology choices to evaluate solution alternatives that meet business needs
  • Develop intelligent automation practical solutions, Proof of Concepts and methodologies;
  • Provides subject matter expertise to drive continuous improvement and consistency by identifying opportunities for innovation and sharing with leadership and project teams (e.g. using innovation to ensure Metrolinx is given priority for approvals by municipalities); act as an escalation point to expedite support for designated systems/projects and to drive service enhancement
  • Identify operational opportunities and introduce leading practices to improve processes by developing standards relating to the functional requirements for projects
  • Accountable for team's adherence to processes, timely issue notification, escalated risks and issue reviews, contingency plan development, risk resolution, facilitates overall escalation process.
  • Provides support, training and coaching to team members
  • Act as the subject matter expert in providing consultation, advice and day-to-day guidance regarding designs, functional and non-functional requirements and processes
  • Define objectives and key success metrics to measure performance of the solutions (before/after)
  • Build collaborative relationships with cross organizational leadership and peers to gain trust with stakeholders (e.g. customers, other business units, tenants, local transit) to foster good relations, gain support, develop resources, drive results, realize project outcomes, manage conflicts, and represent the needs of customers, stakeholders, operations, and maintenance
  • Lead Service reviews – portfolio, projects status and Incidents RCA’ s etc.
  • Manage business relationships to build knowledge of their business, applications and corresponding IT applications.
  • Counsel I&IT and business partners, raise awareness of automation opportunities and industry trends.
  • Validate client experience and satisfaction measurement regularly
  • Lead multiple streams of work and cross-functional teams to translate insights into solutions
  • Propose new ways of solving problems leveraging data analytics and insights
  • Partner with technology team experts (infrastructure, solution engineering, security, data) but challenge the traditional approaches to solutions
  • Work with stakeholders to proactively identify issues and determine the appropriate quality/automation initiatives; Present solutions and options, and lead the resolution strategy as required
  • Lead solutions development and present materials to a variety of internal and external audiences to engage staff/stakeholders and promote further awareness of the I&A objectives and roadmap
  • Ensure artifacts adhere to standards and audit requirement
  • Implement and deliver a prioritized roadmap to maintain and continually improve designated systems and digital experiences, leveraging stakeholder feedback, knowledge of best practices and insights on leading trends
  • Develop in-depth understanding of business processes, assets, facilities, responsibilities, regulatory requirements and inter-dependencies within Metrolinx
  • Propose experiments/POCs to evaluate solutions with low investments
  • Develop, manage operational processes. ensure QA processes tie into technology delivery practices, standards
  • Maintain industry and related associations and relationships to stay informed of emerging advances in technology, methodology, innovation and best practices for operational and planning excellence
  • Work closely with project contractors/consultants to set standards/expectations and facilitate feedback structures associated with performance (e.g. SLAs, response times); leverage knowledge/expertise of contractor related to functional area requirements
  • Work in partnership with Sr. Manager Automation to manage and provide oversight for development and adaptation of industry best practices and initiatives to support client business needs and corporate objectives/priorities
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Understanding of architecture styles, technology trends, agile delivery methodologies; experience in agile delivery is a significant asset
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Completion of a degree in Bachelors degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
  • RPA platform experience in one or more of these tools: Microsoft Power Automate, UiPath, Automation Anywhere Enterprise, Blue Prism and WorkFusion Intelligent Automation
  • Effective written, oral, presentation and interpersonal skills to articulate and present advice, options and recommendations to senior management, executives and business clients on fare systems/fare collection programs, projects and technology solutions
  • Work with a multi-functional team of subject matter experts (SMEs), business analysts and platform engineers, in an Agile delivery model Proven technical leadership capability, and a focus on design and delivery of Innovation and Automation solutions
  • Prepared to work on projects and teams that are comprised of resources;
  • Demonstrated experience in IT within a Lean Agile delivery environment. A minimum of 3 years of this being delivery experience with intelligent automation projects, including with Robotic Process Automation, Business Process Management and Artificial Intelligence solutions (or other technology-enabled transformation programs/projects) with large budgets and strategic impact
  • Proven track record of successful agile projects in a highly dynamic environment;
  • Participates in Industry events and conducts presentations;
