Position Summary

This position has an excellent opportunity for new grads to gain experience in full cycle accounting. The candidate will start from Accounts Receivable function and be fully trained to learn Accounts Payable function and General Ledger depending on progress and business requirements. With an initial focus on Accounts Receivable, the Junior Accountant will apply payments to customer accounts, maintain accounts receivable subledger, close AR, and follow up on collections.

Position Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean Accounts Receivable Subledger, cleanup balances daily
• Generate audit log and attaching approval emails for changes to customer accounts monthly
• Maintain customer accounts with the correct application of applying payments and adjustments
• Preparing supporting document for invoices generated at quarter end for audit purposes
• Other duties as may be assigned from time to time
• Review and process RMAs in the ERP system and refund accordingly
• Participate in cross-training on Accounts Payable and General Ledger duties as needed
• Process invoices after warehouse finishes shipping daily
• Uploading AR aging to SICA to share information monthly
• Make reconciliations for transactions between Shopify and ERP system and solve the discrepancies
• Analyze and report on Receivables Aging; send collection emails and follow up on overdue accounts with engaging sales department and reps in discussion and escalating items of concern
• Reconcile subledger to General Ledger monthly
• Evaluate credit worthiness by reviewing credit limit increase and net term change submitted by sales, prepare application package and submit to appropriate approvers based on approval matrix

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Competencies

• Excellent reconciliation skills – ability to match up debits and credits, find outliers and identify path to resolution
• Intermediate skills in Excel and the MS Office suite
• Self-starter who isn’t looking to be told what to do, but who knows when to ask questions and raise concerns
• Superior attention to detail and problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize patterns, related items and similar situations
• Sound professional judgement and an understanding of human behaviour
• Strong verbal and written communications skills; ability to communicate with people

Education

Position Qualifications:

• Accounting degree is required

Experience

• Experience working with ERP systems is considered an asset, but not mandatory
