Our client is a successful small to midsized IT professional services company located in downtown Toronto and they are looking to hire a Senior Accountant (Junior Controller) to manage the accounting/finance team. The ideal candidate will have strong business sense with an entrepreneurial spirit and positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and strong financial analysis skills. This position will be responsible for streamlining the financial reporting processes, cash management, financial forecasting, planning and analysis, financial reporting, and project accounting. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated accountant to grow, develop and take leadership of the accounting/finance department and move into a senior finance leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the finance team and build a dynamic and high-performance environment
- Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions.
- Help develop and support short and long-term operation strategies
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial and internal controls, accounting policies, practices, and guidelines.
- Provide comprehensive financial reports, analysis, and financial updates to senior managers
- Guide financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to the current customer and market requirements.
- In coordination with the COO, establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a biweekly, monthly and annual basis
- Review and update finance treasury policies and procedures, including forward rates and hedging.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis.
- Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, or related field along with a professional accounting certification, preferably a CPA
- Proven experience in financial project management and project accounting
- Experience within the technology industry is an asset
- Five or more years of professional accounting experience along with two or more years of experience in an accounting or finance leadership/management role
- Experience in managing AP, AR, payroll, and commissions with a focus on streamlining accounting processes
