Senior Accountant, Operational Accounting

We are working with our client in the heavy industrial / renewable energy space to assist in hiring a Senior Accountant, Operational Accountant. As the Senior Accountant, you will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing financial operations related to costing, inventory, and financial reporting, and budgeting. Your responsibilities will encompass various financial aspects of the organization, ensuring accurate accounting practices, cost control, and effective inventory management. Offering a hybrid work model, this position is critical to both the finance and operational teams within the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze production costs, including direct and indirect costs, to determine the true cost of products or services.
• Process Improvement
• Work closely with engineering, production, procurement, and supply chain teams to align financial goals with operational strategies.
• Identify opportunities to enhance financial processes and systems for increased efficiency and accuracy.
• Costing Analysis
• Inventory Management
• Auditing and Compliance
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to implement process improvements and best practices.
• Training and Development
• Oversee inventory valuation and reconciliation processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
• Monitor inventory levels and work with supply chain teams to optimize inventory turnover.
• Conduct cost variance analysis to identify areas for cost reduction and process improvements.
• Mentor and train junior staff members on accounting best practices and industry-specific knowledge
• Financial Reporting
• Support internal and external audits by providing accurate financial data and documentation.
• Generate reports on key financial metrics and provide insights to support decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other relevant regulations.
• Track actual financial performance against budgeted figures, providing variance analysis and recommendations.
• Ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations and reporting requirements.
• Budgeting and Forecasting
• Collaborate with colleagues in finance and accounting departments to achieve departmental objectives.
• Cross-functional Collaboration

Requirements

As the ideal candidate for this role you bring:

• Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to process improvement.
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Proven experience in operational accounting, preferably within the heavy industry sector
• A CPA designation
