Operational Project Accountant Jobs

Support Project Management and Site Operations by creating purchase orders and monthly forecasts

Manage the flow of invoices, payments, and compliance for assigned project.

Have an understanding of compliance requirements for assigned project.

Input and manage all cost entries in Unifier; utilizing the correct cost code.

Build strong relationships with our internal Professional Services business partners, including Delivery and Project Managers.

Effectively work with colleagues across Finance and other key internal and external stakeholders.

Post-secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.

2+ years of experience in Project or Professional Services Accounting

Experience in a multi-entity global environment, high-tech industry experience an asset.

Experience with ERP and project accounting systems, Netsuite, Kantata and Salesforce an asset.

2 to 3 years experience in a similar position in financial and operational management;

Identify AR & WIP provision requirements

Assist Controller with project related external and internal audit requirements.

Knowledge of the professional services industry, project-based accounting and ERP systems;

Ability to work under pressure, with remote teams and the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines;

Demonstrated professional judgment and interpersonal skills;

Liaise with project managers, sub-trades, suppliers, management and other project staff

3 to 5 years of experience as a Project Accountant in construction in Canada; experience in high rise construction is preferred

Preparation of GST returns; familiarity with GST rules/requirements

Experience taking a high-rise project from land acquisition to completion is considered an asset

Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications and Sage 300 CRE or similar accounting software

· Solid knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting technical skills (Canadian accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE)

Role: Senior Project Accountant (Construction Experience Required *)

· Post Secondary education in accounting

· Minimum 1 year working experience in construction, real-estate developer, and related industry

· Computer literacy and experience with Quickbooks and Microsoft Office is required.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Minimum 2 to 4 years of experience in a similar position in financial and operational management;

Work with Project Managers/Coordinators, the credit & collections team and management as needed with the A/R collections process;

Support the PM in preparing the project financials presentation for high management reviews

Provide support and maintenance to a portfolio of complex projects under multiple Project Managers in the Environmental market segment;

Assist Project Managers through the financial lifecycle of a project (i.e. opening, tracking, updating and closing the project);

Prepare ad hoc financial reports for the Controller, Project Managers and Managers.

Prepare pre-billing reports for project managers for their review.

Meet with the project managers and prepare the client invoices according to the project billing terms.

Train project managers on the system and set up their system dashboards.

2-5 years experience as a project accountant is a must.

Experience in Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint application is preferred.

Review the project contract, liaise with the project stakeholders, and set up the projects in the system accurately.

Provide regular reports on accounts receivable aging and work with management to implement strategies for improving collections.

Deduct and process payroll taxes, benefits, and other withholdings as per company policies and regulatory requirements.

Reconcile payroll transactions and prepare payroll reports for management review.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Proven experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Prepare financial statements, management reports, status updates, and ad hoc reports

Excellent organizational skills; high attention to detail; ability to manage multiple deadlines

Manage and oversee accounting processes for a portfolio of mixed use development projects

Manage condominium sales and closings

Accounting Education, Post-secondary degree with CPA designation, or working towards a CPA designation is an asset

Minimum four (4) years experience within the real estate development and/or construction industry

MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Work with Program Management and client on invoices, change orders, approvals

Work with Program Management and client on aged outstanding invoices

Manage work in progress and discrepancies with the billing system

Support Finance Team wide process improvement initiatives

Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel

Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual management reports and providing outstanding invoice information to the Accounting Manager

Inform management of any challenges or disputes

5 – 7 years of experience in an accounting role preferably in a Construction related industry

Previous experience with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable is compulsory

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.

Knowledge of project management methodologies and terminology.

Professional certifications such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) are desirable.

Proficiency in using financial management software and MS Excel.

Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for management and project stakeholders.

Contract Compliance and Risk Management:

Work closely with project managers, finance team, and other stakeholders to provide financial guidance and support.

Desire to utilize analytical skills in order to improve management processes.

Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills.

Advanced knowledge of Excel; proficient in other Microsoft Office programs and Jonas accounting program.

Work with Project Manager and Payment Certifier to ensure monthly draws are properly prepared and circulated.
