Job Summary:
The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of multiple projects within the organization. This includes budgeting, financial analysis, cost control, invoicing, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and project requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams and stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Project Financial Planning and Budgeting:
Collaborate with project managers to develop project budgets.
Assist in the preparation of financial plans and forecasts.
Monitor project expenditures and ensure adherence to approved budgets.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for management and project stakeholders.
Conduct variance analysis and provide explanations for budget deviations.
Analyze project costs, revenue, and profitability.
Cost Control and Monitoring:
Track project expenses and ensure they are within approved budgets.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend appropriate actions.
Review and approve project-related invoices and expenses.
Project Invoicing and Revenue Recognition:
Prepare and issue accurate and timely invoices based on project milestones.
Ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with accounting standards and project contracts.
Address any billing inquiries or discrepancies from clients or internal teams.
Contract Compliance and Risk Management:
Review project contracts to ensure financial terms are accurately reflected.
Monitor compliance with contractual requirements, financial regulations, and internal policies.
Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with project activities.
Project Accounting Administration:
Maintain project-related financial records, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Assist with the setup of new projects in the accounting system.
Collaborate with project teams and auditors during internal and external audits.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with project managers, finance team, and other stakeholders to provide financial guidance and support.
Communicate financial information, reports, and analysis effectively to project teams and management.
Requirements:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven experience as a Project Accountant or in a similar role.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a team environment.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with government regulations and compliance requirements related to project accounting is advantageous.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and terminology.
- Proficiency in using financial management software and MS Excel.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and project accounting practices.
- Professional certifications such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) are desirable.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
