Junior To Intermediate Accountant

Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior to Intermediate Accountant with experience in the construction industry to join our construction client located in North Vancouver BC. Reporting into the CFO, the ideal Junior to Intermediate Accountant will have a strong foundation in accounting principles and practices, coupled with a demonstrated understanding of construction-specific financial processes. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the financial management of our construction projects while advancing your career in a dynamic and collaborative environment. This role is based 100% in the office.

Responsibilities

• Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records using accounting software and spreadsheets.
• Collaborate with project managers to monitor and analyze project costs, ensuring accuracy and adherence to budgetary constraints.
• Assist in preparing financial statements, reports, and analyses related to construction projects.
• Collaborate with various departments, including project management and procurement, to ensure accurate financial data flow and support decision-making.
• Generate regular financial reports for management, highlighting project financial performance and key metrics.
• Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable balances, resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Identify opportunities to streamline and improve accounting processes within the construction department.
• Assist with accounts payables and match purchase orders, and payment requisitions for construction materials, subcontractors, and other project-related expenses.
• Accurately record financial transactions related to construction projects, including expenses, revenue, and accounts payable/receivable.
• Contribute to the implementation of best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Identify potential cost overruns and discrepancies and provide recommendations for cost-saving measures.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Effective communication skills to interact with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
• Knowledge of construction-specific accounting principles, such as percentage of completion (POC) method and job costing.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 100/Timberline) and Microsoft Excel.
• 1-3 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with exposure to the construction industry.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or relevant certification is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
