Job Description
Two Support Staff Full-time New Positions
(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)
The International Admissions Officer is responsible for the full scope of the admissions process for international students into post-secondary programs, including English for Academic Studies. The incumbent admits qualified applicants to post-secondary, certificate, graduate, and degree programs by managing admission activities which support the college enrolment plan. The incumbent demonstrates a deep knowledge of international admissions by responding to program and admission-related questions, informing applicants of decisions, advising them on appropriate action, and interpreting admission requirements and selection criteria for the client.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. There are two vacancies for this position.
The first vacancy will be working at the Milton campus, located at 8160 Parkhill Drive, Milton, ON L9T 5V7. It is anticipated that the position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with 2 days on-site, and 3 days remote. Please note this role will be working out of the Doon campus while the Milton campus is being built and will be working a hybrid work arrangement with 2 day on-site and 3 days remote.
The second vacancy will be working at the Brantford campus, located at 274 Colborne Street, Brantford, ON N3T 2H5. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with 2 days on-site, and 3 days remote.
Responsibilities
  • Monitoring admission/enrolment process, taking action as required ensuring program capacities are met to support the college enrolment plan
  • Receiving and responding to telephone, written, in-person, and electronic inquiries on programs, and admission requirements
  • Developing and producing tailored correspondence to clients with special circumstances that are not covered in standard admission letters
  • Following up on admission problems with individual applicants
  • Ensuring English proficiency is met (IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, or other recognized test) prior to the admission letter issued
  • Providing and interpreting statistical information on a number of program applications, length of waitlists, number of applicants, etc.
  • Issuing letters of acceptance including deferrals and ensuring letters are available on the international application portal in a timely manner
  • Advising Program representatives of issues with selection procedures and recommending alternatives
  • Reviewing the admissions process with the Manager of International Admissions and making recommendations for implementing and refining admission procedures and systems
  • Reviewing data for the admission decision process
  • Ensuring that all qualified applicants have met the published Ministry and College admission requirements and selection criteria
  • Communicating with prospective applicants, students, parents, sponsoring agencies, secondary school guidance counsellors, and community agency counsellors
  • Co-ordinating communication with applicants which includes sending notification of admission decisions to applicants, preparing various communications to students including practicum requirements, and other admission-related information required by the applicant
  • Liaising with the Registrar's admissions office on issues as required
Qualifications
  • Well-developed interpersonal and public relations skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and in demanding and conflicting situations
  • Above average organizational and multi-tasking abilities
  • Effective time management skills and demonstrated ability to work under pressure in demanding situations
  • Two-year Diploma in Business, Office Administration, Education, or related field
  • Related practical experience working with a diverse clientele, including newcomers to Canada and new Canadians
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrate patience and appreciation for cultural differences when dealing with international students
  • Three years of practical experience in student/client services and experience working with multiple large database systems and international students
  • Excellent oral, written, listening, and communication skills
  • Highly developed client service skills and ability to respond and problem solve with tact, diplomacy, discretion, and professionalism
