Job Description
SAIT’s School of Manufacturing, Automation & Transportation provides the skills-based training and development to prepare students for a career in Alberta's rapidly growing oil and gas, transportation, manufacturing and automation sectors. We provide applied learning in action through our trades and technology programs.


The Opportunity


Reporting to the Academic Chair, the School of Manufacturing, Automation & Transportation is looking to hire an Instructor to teach within the Structural Ironworker program and to do yard supervision within the Crane program. This is a Temporary salaried position for a Journeyperson Ironworker to meet the growing demand for both programs.


The incumbent is accountable for promoting a positive and interactive learning environment with hands-on learning. In addition, you will work with students and faculty by attending recruitment initiatives and school events, and maintain strong industry relationships. You should enjoy a challenge, possess strong technical skills and be an excellent communicator who works well in a collaborative team environment.

The Role


  • Oversee lifting and hoisting operations in our yard
  • Maintain close contact with relevant industry sectors
  • Prepare and present lectures and labs
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners
  • Develop course outlines, profiles and curriculum
  • Prepare additional study and lab materials for learners
  • Participate in curriculum and program reviews
  • Evaluate student progress and achievement
  • Instruct high level courses to mature learners
  • Promote and educate about our programs through Open House, Info-sessions, Career Fairs and Youth Initiatives as needed
  • Maintain a student-first centered philosophy
  • Perform related duties as assigned to meet the emerging needs of SAIT and its students
  • Work well in a team environment


Qualifications & Experience


  • Possess a positive, respectful attitude, and a high commitment to student success and collaboration
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint considered an asset
  • Must hold a Journeyperson and Red Seal Certificate as an Ironworker. Structural Ironworker is preferred, but Reinforcing Ironworker or Journeyperson MBSE Ironworker with structural experience will be considered
  • Prior teaching experience is an asset, formal teaching education is an asset
  • Comfortable with public speaking, and able to convey course subjects to diverse students and learning styles
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Aptitude for mentoring and coaching others
  • Red Seal or Journeyperson tickets in Boom Truck, Mobile Crane, Welding or other related trade considered an asset

Salary range: $84,127.00 - $92,833.00
