About the Opportunity

You will be assisting the Engineering Manager in the expansion and development of an existing pallet racking inspection program for our clients. You will be involved in several aspects of the program’s evolution including the execution of field inspections and data collection and will be responsible for creating and maintaining related documentation including drawings, calculations, client reports, internal reports, material takeoff (MTO), vendor quotes, and permit submissions.

You will correspond directly with our clients, manufacturers, and other business partners, working individually and as a part of a project team. You will develop a knowledge of industry design standards and applicable codes relating to steel structures.


Education:Bachelor of Engineering in Civil/Structural


Responsibilities:

  • Provide input into or prepare cost estimates, schedules, and material specifications.
  • Structural engineering analysis and design of storage racking structure.
  • Provide detailed engineering design and construction support services.
  • Create Material Take off or Bill of Materials for completed inspections.
  • The creation and management of all related documentation, drawings, calculations, client reports, and internal reports.
  • Assist in the development of a database system to capture, record and report inspection data.
  • The execution of field inspections and data collection.
  • Manage workflow and control costs to ensure profitability.
  • Communicate and interface regularly with clients’ engineering, maintenance, and construction personnel as well as vendors and contractors. A willingness to travel to client offices and field facilities is required.


Qualifications:

  • Field experience and construction method will be an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with team members and external clients.
  • Work experience with AutoCAD and structural engineering analysis software such as RISA and MathCAD.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • 3 to 5 years of engineering design/field experience.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Prior experience in estimating & construction is required.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.
  • Able to work and contribute individually and as part of a team, being a self-starter.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory bodies and various codes (NBC - 2019 Alberta Edition, NBC and CSA)
  • EIT / Licensed professional in good standing and/or eligible for licensure with APEGA.
  • Strong understanding of scope, time, risk, and quality management
  • Analysis and design of various structure foundation would be an asset.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing key engineering drawings.
  • Ability to perform effectively as an individual or in a team.
