Job Description

Purpose:

The Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for providing support in all key areas of Human Resources, including but not limited to recruitment and selection; health and safety; compensation and benefit administration; disability management; labour and employee relations; and

training. The HR Coordinator is also responsible for the administration of the HRMS system, maintaining employee records and files, and preparation and maintenance of documentation relating to HR and payroll activities.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Human Resources team in other key functions as required and perform all other duties as assigned
  • Coordinate all aspects of recruitment and selection including employee sign-on, and orientation and onboarding functions
  • Coordinate training sessions, maintain and update the Agency’s training calendar; maintain training records, including tracking, filing, archiving, and reporting
  • Develop, maintain and work to improve job-related standard operating procedures
  • Assist with the administration of the Agency’s disability management program, including WSIB claims and case management; short-term disability and long-term disability claims.
  • Support the collective bargaining process and attend labour management meetings as required
  • Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of HR programs, policies, procedures, tools and forms
  • Administer compensation and benefit plans, including responding to inquiries from employees, providing plan information and liaising with carriers when required
  • First point of contact for HR inquiries for employees, supervisors and managers
  • Provide back-up coverage for Central Administration Services as needed
  • Maintain the human resources management system (HRMS) and human resources files including coordination of data collection, input, reports, follow-up, maintenance and HR metrics and liaising with payroll


Position Requirements:

  • One to two years of related work experience in all aspects of human resources, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Ability to work under conditions of strict confidentiality is essential
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture
  • Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Professional, proven customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively
  • Attention to detail, sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills
  • Completion of the membership and coursework requirements leading to a professional Human Resources designation (i.e. Certified Human Resources Professional - CHRP)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work both independently and within a team
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software programs and the ability to adapt quickly to applicable software
  • College diploma in the field of Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Industrial/Labour Relations or in a related discipline


Hours of Work:

  • Forty (40) hours per week, Monday to Friday
