This position reports to Engineering Manager and will be responsible to plan workload supervise, oversee technical compliance and review all final deliverables for his/her team providing design agent services and technical support to minor warships and auxiliary vessels.
How will you contribute to the team?
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
SMEES 1 – Engineering Design (Time =50%):

• Affix P.Eng stamp to Engineering deliverables.
• Manage and review the preparation of engineering change specifications.
• Manage and review all engineering and mechanical systems studies, design, failure investigations and analysis, technical evaluations, cost estimates, and options analysis for new equipment or modifications to existing equipment and systems.

SMEES 2 – Department Management (Time = 40%):

• Provide monthly project updates but not limited to report to the client including cost, schedule and risks.
• Update and maintain the EAOP.
• Plan workload, Department Schedule maintenance, Department reporting , supervise, oversee technical compliance.

SMEES 3 – Environmental, Safety and Training (Time = 5%):

• Consult with HSSE to understand new policies and ensure management understands the adverse or positive impacts these have.
• Ensure training is kept current.
• Ensure quality, environmental, and safety regulations are followed and any changes are communicated to their supervisor.

SMEES 4 – Personnel Management (Time = 5%):

• Maintain personnel records for performance, vacation, adherence to company policies, etc.

SMEES 5 – Complete Other Tasks As Directed.
Supervisory and leadership role – Provide guidance/training to others.
Education And Knowledge

• Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD software and ability to view electrical design drawings, in addition to a proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Good understanding of Health and Safety programs.
• Hold a valid P.Eng in the province of practice.
• Understanding of scheduling, business process and resource management.
• Experience in a design office setting.
• A strong team player with the ability to work independently.
• Strong people management skills with the ability to provide direction, guidance, and development.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, planning and organizing abilities with excellent interpersonal skills.
• A working knowledge of the major Classification society Rules, SOLAS and Transport Canada is considered an asset.
• A degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of ten (10) years of demonstrated marine work experience in engineering within the last 15 years.
• Familiarization with ISO 9001, 14001, and 18001.
• Strong delegation and time management skills, with initiative and follow-up capabilities.
• Be conversant with MS Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Project management experience.
• Experience in managing a team.
• Sound understanding of DND internal workings and how it maintenance system works
• Ability to obtain a security clearance of Level II.
• A working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hull and electronic standards and marine society rules.

Physical Requirements –

• Able to climb from dry dock deck level to the inside of the ship bilges a number of times.
• Able to work in various weather conditions (rain / cold / snow / etc.).
• Good Health
• Able to climb tanks steps, ladders, and shipboard ladders.
