Job Description

Reporting to the Vice President, Information Technology, the Director, IT – Infrastructure, Platform & Operations will assist in providing management oversight of Spark Power’s technology infrastructure, platform and operations. The Infrastructure, Platform and Operations (P&O) encompasses ServiceDesk, Site and Field Services and Technology Operations (Infrastructure and Networking management, Information Security), and the management of the suite of collaboration tools (VOIP, Microsoft Office365, and conferencing technologies). The Director, IT – Infrastructure, Platform & Operations’ focus will encompass all services and support associated with the end-to-end life-cycle of these collaboration tools and supporting services. The Director, Information Technology will be accountable for the delivery, monitoring and maintenance of these solutions and platforms including initiatives focused on enhancing quality, effectiveness, reliability, and responsiveness of services and support to the company’s divisions and employee-end-users. This role also works closely with the Director, IT – Application Management Services to ensure the infrastructure, platform and technology operations supports the business systems and applications in use throughout the organization.



What will you be responsible for?

  • Makes sure the team understands and adheres to organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Manage support incidents and ensure incident resolution meets customer needs within agreed upon resolution timelines.
  • Builds high performing teams and empowers the team to deliver appropriate solutions.
  • Review, assess and approve key deliverables in the solution development lifecycle including project plans, business requirements, test plans and training documentation.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of Technology Policies & Procedures, IT Service Definition and IT Service Reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC Standards (Reliability and CIP) and cyber security issues.
  • Effectively manage external service providers for scope, service delivery and budgeted costs.
  • Manage the Information Technology Services annual operating and capital budgets. Identifies and mitigates any budget overages.
  • Establish, align, measure and report on service performance/service level standards, objectives, and targets that align with business priorities, needs and demands.
  • Effectively manage critical IT Assets (hardware and software license management)
  • Represent and oversee delivery and fulfillment of Infrastructure, Platform & Technology Operations Services to ensure customer satisfaction and successful business outcomes.
  • Participate in the development, update and maintenance of the Spark Power’s Technology strategy and roadmap.
  • Ensure security of Spark’s proprietary data and overall risks related to Information Security.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and/or processes and procedures to improve the use and effectiveness of technology within the organization.
  • Takes responsibility for any issues or problems within the department and makes sure they are dealt with appropriately.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant information security, business continuity and disaster recovery procedures to ensure technical processes and systems meets the documented controls and policies.
  • Oversees the delivery of projects and enhancements from intake through to implementation.
  • Develop understanding and awareness of relevant industries and marketplace including key and emerging technologies and third-party services/offerings and incorporate into technical strategies, initiatives and support services.
  • Oversee and lead a team of analysts, system administrators and technical specialists, to achieve effective business results and quality service delivery.
  • Working with their peers and their teams, develop technology roadmaps and strategies to ensure on-going improvement and enhancement of supported technologies for business units.
  • Demonstrates accountability for progress of work in-scope for the department and its alignment to business and technology strategies;
  • Thorough understanding of business processes and business goals to identify current and future technical requirements and to ensure project and support priorities are aligned.

Do you have the Spark? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Experience with infrastructure, network and security-related technologies including: operating systems, virtualization technologies, firewalls, network monitoring, identity management tools and spam and email filtering solutions.
  • Minimum 8+ years experience in information technology development and/or IT consulting; or any combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in managing and overseeing third-party service provider service delivery execution and business & commercial governance.
  • Strong communication (written and oral) skills geared to customer service and customer satisfaction;
  • Strong team and organizational leadership and management capabilities.
  • Understanding of standard ITIL principles and practices (Incident Management, Release Management, Change Management)
  • Implementation and technology management experience with IT Service Management (ITSM) principles and tools/solutions.
  • Experience with desktop/laptop (PC) technology, mobile and portable device technologies, print/conferencing/unified communications solutions, and mobile device management (MDM) tools.
  • BS degree in Computer Science / Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience. University or post graduate level education in computer science, business or related field.
  • Experience in developing and implementing IT services offerings including solution development, implementation planning and execution, financial budget management and forecasting, and on-going service improvement and innovation.
  • Experience with management, monitoring and support of Cloud Services (Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud) and SaaS platforms (software as a service platforms).
  • Knowledge and effective understanding of key technologies and industry/third-party services, methods, and best-practices in technology management life-cycles.
