Job Summary


The Faculty of Management and the Schulich School of Law are each seeking a Director of Development. Reporting to the Dean of their respective faculty and the Senior Director of Development, Advancement, the Director of Development works collaboratively with the Dean and other Faculty leaders, including Associate Deans, Alumni and External Relations, Career Services, and Employer Relations, and Communications and Marketing, as well as the University Advancement Office to build and advance strong personal and professional relationships in support of the Faculty’s advancement and fundraising goals.


Key Responsibilities


  • Leads the engagement between donors and faculty leaders by matching donor interests with the Faculty’s priorities. Provides coaching, leadership, and support to engage faculty members in strategic fundraising activities.
  • Ensures that donor recognition strategies and programs are in place to maintain and grow excellent relations with the Faculty’s supporters.
  • Collaborates with the University Advancement Office on prospect identification, writing projects, and stewardship, as well as on other Advancement portfolios, such as annual fund, class giving, and legacy giving.
  • Liaises with the Vice-President and Assistant Vice-President, Development, and other university leaders to determine common objectives relating to comprehensive fundraising campaigns and other major initiatives.
  • Leads the establishment of fundraising priorities for the Faculty, in collaboration with the Dean and other faculty-based leaders and faculty-based fundraisers.
  • Identifies, qualifies, engages, and cultivates prospective donors and solicits principal and major gifts.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.


Required Qualifications


  • Exceptional communication skills; proven ability to prepare polished, relevant, and compelling presentations, reports, briefs, and other written materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and plan strategically, to work independently, and to achieve results.
  • An interest in all aspects of education related to their respective Faculty.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; proven ability to establish trust, rapport, and credibility with diverse constituencies; evidence of continuous learning, self-reflection, and humility regarding effective communication across cultures.
  • Undergraduate degree plus a minimum of five years’ relevant experience leading complex projects in the area of fundraising, financial services, sales, or business development (or equivalent combination of training and experience).


Assets


  • Experience in major gift fundraising and a track record of successfully closing major gifts.
  • Experience in in post-secondary education.
