The Opportunity

This role is responsible for analysis and the provision of financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders. The Corporate Reporting Analyst is expected to develop accounting expertise in all areas of GAAP relevant to SAIT, especially Public Sector Accounting Standards, and the ability to critically evaluate accounting options and propose recommended courses of action with supporting documentation. This role collaborates with Departments and Schools across campus to provide guidance on accounting treatment of grants and donations, and to provide subject matter expertise on inter-departmental projects as needed.

• Prepare and accurately file tax data on behalf of the institution as required
• Best practices and business process improvement
• Grant reconciliation and reporting
• Relationship management
• Team participation
• Support the Team Lead, Corporate Reporting, in analysis and quality control activities related to SAIT’s financial statements and note disclosure
• Act as a key contact with Ministry of Advanced Education for provincial grant funding
• Ensure appropriate flow and reconciliation of grant and donation-related transactions as required
• Advise campus stakeholders on appropriate accounting and controls around grant funding
• Act as the steward of SAIT’s government grant tracking and reporting process through coordinating grant and donation contributions, and ensuring revenue recognition criteria is met
• Compile reporting to external entities as required
• Preparation and analysis of working papers in support of monthly, quarterly, and year-end balances
• Provide support and appropriate cover-off within the department to meet business needs as required
• Act as a key Finance resource in collaboration with various departments and schools to provide financial guidance to clients
• Other external reporting
• Stay current on approaches to financial management and processes through continued professional development
• Ensure accurate business stream reporting through appropriate preparation and posting of consolidation and elimination entries
• Provide guidance for financial accounting and reporting across the institution as required
• Support auditing processes with the appropriate resources as required
• Evaluate grant letters to ensure adequate information is provided for appropriate accounting, monitoring, and accountability reporting
• Ensure institutional compliance with industry best practices and government regulations

Qualifications

• Minimum
• Experience in a post-secondary or public sector accounting environment
• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience with large financial software systems
• Completion or enrolment in a professional accounting designation
• 5+ years of experience in a corporate accounting environment
• Preferred
• Extensive experience with financial modules in ERP systems
