Overview


The New Ventures Business Unit (New Ventures) team is growing. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a high-energy team working on exciting new business platform opportunities for Pembina Pipeline Corporation.


New Ventures is focused on identifying, evaluating and developing new value-enhancing business platforms. We are leveraging our organization’s deep technical and commercial expertise, expansive infrastructure network and product mix to develop opportunities in three core areas: energy transition, chemical and energy projects and hubs, and export terminals.


  • Terminals: we are building on our tide-water presence to access diversified, global markets for our customers and products.
  • Chemicals: we are evaluating world-scale facilities and investments that can transform our feedstock into higher-value products; and
  • Energy Transition: we are developing competencies and strategic projects to position our business, customers and products for resiliency in a low-carbon economy (carbon capture utilization & sequestration, hydrogen, renewable fuels, clean power, early-stage technologies and innovative businesses);


For this role, we are seeking an experienced and well-rounded finance/accounting professional who can take on a wide range of responsibilities including month end accounting, planning and forecasting, management scorecard reporting, joint venture accounting and financial reporting, join interest billing, and project cost control.


Responsibilities


The primary responsibilities, deliverables and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate inputs and prepare the consolidated scorecard highlights for the New Ventures Division;
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
  • Business Planning;
  • Prepare monthly accounting journal entries for various wholly owned, joint operations or joint ventures businesses including revenue, expense, capital accounts;
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance indicators and identify early warnings for performance risks.
  • Support the filing of various tax credits.
  • Proportionate consolidate financial results of the New Ventures Division;
  • Management Reporting
  • Set up and continuously improve systems and processes for accounting and invoicing;
  • Financial Reporting
  • Maintain joint venture capital accounts;
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts for joint venture entities and coordinate cash calls, contributions and distributions where applicable;
  • Reconcile key accounts and conduct variance analysis for each legal entity;
  • Coordinate with business leads and prepare management reports as specified / required by individual joint ventures;
  • Audits
  • Respond to internal and external audit queries within timelines specified in agreements;
  • Support the application of and the follow-on reporting required under various government funding programs; and
  • Compliance Filing
  • Implement continuous improvement opportunities identified from audits; and
  • Prepare management scorecards for the New Ventures Business Unit;
  • Support tax audits.
  • Provide any other bookkeeping services as specified by joint venture agreements.
  • Undertake ad-hoc finance / accounting requests and/or provide project support as required; and
  • Assist with the preparation of budget presentation materials;
  • Prepare books and records requested for joint venture financial audits or customer / partner audits;
  • Update financial forecasts of assets under management on a monthly basis; and
  • Assess financial impacts from customer / partner audits;
  • Issue joint interest partner or customer billing and respond to enquiries;
  • Support ESG reporting for the business unit and /or joint ventures;
  • Facilitate a cross-functional team to establish annual budgets for assets under the management of the New Ventures Business Unit;


Job Qualifications


  • A CPA or CFA designation is preferred;
  • Demonstrated success working independently as well as in a multifunctional team environment.
  • Experience with SAP and BPC (Business Planning & Consolidation) is preferred, experience with SAP JV module is considered an asset;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial reporting and / or financial planning and analysis;
  • A thorough and attentive focus on detail;
  • Demonstrated financial modelling skills;
  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles such as IFRS;
  • The ability to simultaneously co-ordinate multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment; and
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or other applicable curriculum;
